And also if you're gonna be tracking your calories, be liberal with the caloric value of what you're eating. There's some really messed up entries for caloric value of things in MyFitnessPal that extremely underestimate how many calories are in certain foods. Like an entry for a full-sized cinnamon bun that says it's 150 calories (just making up an example, but I've seen things that absurd)

Too many people complain about tracking calories not working for them, and I guarantee it's that they weren't tracking properly.

Edit: Oh another thing: with stuff like protein powder measuring itself in scoops, they tend to be way off in how many grams are in a scoop. I don't know how they get away with it, but if you measure with a scale how many grams are in a scoop, it can be like 25% more than what it says on the tub

When I'm on my Mac I don't really use a minimize button ever. I organize all my windows between virtual desktops. One for calendar/notes, one for browsers and maybe the downloads folder open, one for IDE and terminal, one for chat apps, etc.

Doesn't seem much better on iOS. I just checked and I've got Twitter with 2.59GB, Instagram with 1.27GB, TikTok with 1.21GB, etc.

I'm surprised mismatching parenthesis was a common mistake in 2016 given the ubiquity of IDEs and text editors that should catch a syntax error like that.

This seems nice. I'm not a huge Discord user but one thing that always bugs me when I'm occasionally using it is when there's 2 topics of conversation going on at once. It especially happens a lot in help threads, where 2 people are needing help at the same time and people have to keep replying to the previous message in that conversation.

Though at the same time, it seems a bit weird that it's almost like a sub-channel? Does that mean in this scenario you'd have a whole list of threads down the side underneath the channel for every question?

I see people complaining about Slack threads but I personally find them perfect for what it needs to do. Creating a short thread from a message doesn't seem as big of a deal as what this looks to be doing.

I'm surprised you're even able to make use of the search because that's also horrible and loves to swap out the result you wanted last second so you open up something else random. It's also incredibly slow and tries to hamfist bing search results and stupid suggestions to install apps instead of just searching your computer.

Now I use Everything (voidtools). And I put it as the first pinned item in my taskbar so I can do Win+1 to access it quickly.

I don't buy that "good-bad-good-bad" pattern that everyone references. It's a mildly funny observation, but it's hard to say that Windows 10 is really that good. It's more usable than Windows 8, but the bar was so low, that's not a very useful metric.

We still have yet to see if that will actually become a standard going forward. Sure there's probably gonna be some fancy games without loading screens doing crazy content-streaming tricks to show of the new console hardware, but in the long-term, studios may decide it's not worth the time and effort compared to just having a loading screen that loads the whole level in a big chunk.

Plus you're gonna be targeting a much wider userbase for the time being by not targeting SSDs.

Apple's "retina displays" aren't mapped to any specific PPI number. It depends on typical viewing distance for the device it's on (e.g. an iPhone would need a higher PPI to be "retina" than an iMac which would sit further from your face)

So for a device like this you'd probably compare it to an iPad. The latest one is 264 according to a quick Google search.

I'd argue the Steam controller was kinda bad. But more in concept than execution. The touch pads were just not a good replacement for a thumbstick or a D-pad

But I agree with what you're saying. If this thing is actually good, it could have some real mainstream appeal.

My guess is that even more than accidental mistouches would just be how many users are used to blindly accepting things because it's the only way to not get harassed with pop-ups. They might automatically assume that if they don't accept now, they'll get prompted again every time they open the app.

Well they probably know, but people on the business side figure out that if you implement a door that's too confusing to operate and can keep people stuck inside your building where you show them more ads, it's better to use the bad door.

I don't know if I care about collaboration or the division into blocks, but there is something to be said about how inputting text into a terminal is a completely different mode of operation. I'm alright at getting around in a text editor with system-level keyboard shortcuts, but as soon as I'm typing into a terminal input buffer I feel like I'm in a weird uncanny valley version of typing. Like how I can't do shift + left/right to highlight text and instead it throws in some hexidecimal number that I then have to delete.

I don't know, I've used these and I think they're actually kind of ingenious. Perhaps not the most intuitive thing, but once you understand how it works, it's pretty easy to use, and having the entire vertical area you can move your mouse for granularity is probably superior to moving a circle back and forth on a tiny bar.

I imagine this was originally implemented just because they wanted the UI to be a 1-to-1 matching of a soundboard, but it actually has the advantage of what I mentioned (granularity), as well as being able to display the level within a circle, AND you can fit a ton of them on screen without taking up much space. They're actually very functional.
