Thinking of solutions for this, couldn't you stagger when tickets go on sale at each venue? Seattle goes on sale at 10am, Portland on sale at 2pm, and Denver the following day? This spreads the demand over time and you don't have 5 billion requests all at once.

I certainly agree with the article. Something I have struggled with that has prevented me from writing more, is that I get near 0 eyes on the articles I spend a lot of time writing and thinking through. I'm not sure how to ever get eyes on my blogs, which has me discouraged from continuing writing more. I use Medium and post the articles to HN/twitter, but it hasn't seemed to help any.

I found it difficult to learn how to dress properly when starting with zero knowledge on the subject, and every article and website I could find on the subject was always a "How to be the best dressed person in the room". I started this blog to help people take the first steps in dressing properly.

The article mentions "The incident was dramatised in the American 1993 made-for-TV movie Mercy Mission - the Rescue of Flight 771." Maybe that is what you are referring to?

There is a local barbershop I have been going to for the past 4 years or so. Recently, they wanted to increase some business, so they were asking customers to leave a review. Loving the place and wanting to give back, I left a good review on Google. Fast forward a few weeks, and received emails from google saying my review has been viewed 100s of times. I used to be able to call and get an appointment the same day, or same afternoon even, but now it's difficult to be seen the same day. It's a bit of a bummer, and I'm not really sure how to solve it. It hurt me as a long time customer, but the shop is doing a ton more business now. Now I'm hesitant to do this for any other business I enjoy, even knowing this is a selfish feeling.

I think this largely depends on who he goes to visit. It's very probable his status will prevent him from meeting people, but I think he can get around this. I'd love for him to meet my father. He's a recently retired immigrant chef, doesn't own a Facebook account, doesn't care who Zuckerberg is, but would provide him with great conversation on his struggles and challenges with technology as well as the best meal of his life. If I know someone good to talk to that is this close to me while being in the field of tech, I'm sure he can find good people to meet as well.

I interviewed with them 2 years ago, as well as a couple of months ago. 2 years ago I would have rated the experience as "fine". My most recent experience was great, however. Very organized, lots of communication on Google's part, and I had a great interviewer. They have definitely made improvements.

I have a similar use case. I generally visit websites with adblock disabled, but will turn it on when I know I'm going to a website that has a lot of invasive ads. I would happily download an ad blocker that had a pre-populated white list of some sort.

I don't think it really matters where the internship is. I completed my internships in places that I did not want to move after college. It was more about getting the experience and having that experience on my resume. I wouldn't suggest limiting yourself to internships in the place you want to ultimately end up.

I work on software for a few satellites (not Kepler) and they have gone into an emergency or safe mode a couple times over their long lifetime. None of those times ended up being because of a serious problem. While I am interested to hear back on what exactly tripped the emergency mode, I think the main sad news here is the loss of the finite supply of fuel on board, which will ultimately shorten Kepler's operational lifetime.

I hope this comment doesn't discourage others. I went to a school not known outside of the southeast (and even sometimes not then) and received interviews with many of the top companies (Google, Microsoft, Intel, Amazon, etc), even when I had to check the "other" option for schools.

The biggest problem I have with their ads is that I pay for SoundCloud and still have to suffer through them :(

I can cook, but I can't create a gourmet meal without guidance from someone well experienced in cooking. I can shop and look okay, but I can't look my absolute best without some stylist guidance. I get what you are saying, but I think these services go beyond a "basic understanding" and take it up a notch. And that, in my opinion, is what is worth the money.

I thoroughly enjoy driving due to the fact that I know I can't do anything productive on my phone or computer. It's one of the few times I can relax myself and enjoy the experience...something that is dwindling on airplanes as the WIFI technology gets better and better.

Was there a "transition" period for you at all? Did you find your self constantly checking (twitter, facebook, etc.) to manually check for notifications?

I believe this will have a positive effect in the U.S. as well. For whatever reason, I get 1 bar of service at the office if I'm lucky. The Facebook app is frustrating to use under those circumstances. On the contrary, Twitter is actually not that bad. I've been impressed with it under bad network situations. Consequently, I find myself opening up Twitter a lot more than Facebook during breaks.

They would need to be a certain weight for the rocket they would ride on, be able to withstand radiation, generate power or install a different power source, be able to withstand various extreme temperatures, ensure it can "swim" in different oceans (Titan's ocean is not H2O). Not to mention they need to develop a way to deliver the sub to the water safely. I think there are lots of changes here.

Are the batteries going to be replaceable? I worry when the battery ages it won't last through the night. At 10 hours of charge maximum, if the battery loses just 20% of its max capacity, I would run risk of the battery not making it through the night.

It looks like Mixify is doing something similar now as well [1], but focusing on booking clubs instead of a bunch of individuals like Turntable. Both seems like a pretty neat concept. I think this will be great for low population areas that artists wouldn't typically go to.

While CPU and battery improvements are always nice, I personally love the added features such as photo syncing. I take a photo on my phone anywhere and it automatically uploads it to my Dropbox in the background so I can view them on my computer when I get home. It's probably one of my favorite features of Dropbox and I hope to see more of this kind of thing in the future. Not to say that other aspects don't need improvement, but I think features like this add a lot of value to the product.
