And another data point.
https://www.baidu.com/s?wd=19890604&rsv_spt=1&rsv_iqid=0xfd2...
No blocking there and it's a Chinese search engine!
To clarify, I actually queried http://www.microsoft.com/19890604 and had it redirected to https://... by Microsoft's server. So the URL query was in plaintext.
Just, you know, so the undies come unbunched before people comment.
I just tried https://www.microsoft.com/19890604 from inside China (Wuhan, to be specific) on a naked (non-back-doored) connection. I got Microsoft's 404, not any of the GFW behaviour I've come to know and loathe.
I think I'll be calling bullshit on this.
Claims that her husband did her work for her could put her in danger from the Chinese government? I doubt it.
And I'm sure you're ready to document your years and years of experience with the Chinese government.
And I'm also sure you're ready to document that it's a HUSBAND that Naomi Wu is concerned with.
But ... I won't be holding my breath.
(For reference: her story has already hit Weibo with people calling for her to be arrested. Thought I'd mention that.)
She's a highly followed online persona...
Highly-followed on WESTERN (and BANNED IN CHINA!) social media you utter berk! That ALONE is grounds for her to be nervous of being noticed.
I'm curious: is this really the hill Stallmanistas have chosen to die on? Really? A not very funny, not very helpful, and to anybody not living in the sphere of Batshitstania (a.k.a. the USA) absolutely incomprehensible joke? This is what you want to go to war over?
Talk of identity politics overriding common sense!
Me. I don't even have an account on it.
There's at least one language (Refal: there may be more!) based on Markov algorithms. Another language (XL: as far as I know this is the only one of its breed thus far) works at its core on parse tree substitution. Yet another (CHR) does a weird generalization of term re-writing to provide a toolkit for making constraint languages. (Yes, a language to make languages.)
There's a reason I've become a programming language whore.
Uh... which part of "DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT TO" is actually unclear here? Is there a word or phrase that you're not grasping?
"DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT TO" clearly includes not only taking over the IP but also RE-LICENSING IT under whatever terms you like. That's kind of what "DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT TO". Do. What ever the fuck. You want to.
How is this unclear? I'm kind of baffled.
In today's lesson, wodenokoto learned that real life is infinitely more complicated than San Francisco startups would have you believe.
Well, only game if you're ignorant and unimaginative...
Mercury (1998).
There's only one response for this degree of idiocy: http://goo.gl/mUSwx
Everybody thinks that the identifying characteristic of Erlang is the "Actor"(-like) model.
This is untrue.
This is also why all the "Actor"(-like) libraries grafted on to other programming languages that proudly proclaim themselves "Erlang-like" are wrong and make me laugh out loud when I run across them.
The guy who wrote Github is responsible for some of the worst coding atrocities in a major piece of F/OSS. (Evidence: the Linguist debacle.)
JS for Cats is, in comparison to Linguist, a work of towering intellect.
"Ignoring that every word in programming is in US English: color, gray, program."
The parochialism of the wannabe "hacker" (entreprenerd) here used to be cute.
Trigger Warning: HN
Well, I expect that's why so much C++ is misrecognized. Not enough people write valid C++, in Github's narrow world view. :)
You mean like the other source code repository hosts do?
Unfortunately, until this core issue is fixed, users can't really submit further pull requests to fix the other issues which would correct the "inflation" we all know and hate.
"Troll" is like "terrorist" these days. It has absolutely no semantic content beyond "person I disagree with about something".
How 'bout a project-specific property list that looks something like this:
.rb=RealBasic .m=Mercury .pl=Prolog .js=SomeCrapOrOther …
This is because you likely think before you code.
"I use Github for the visual flair and cool features."
The software crisis spelled out in a single sentence.
Unless they use gist.
Five languages across two decades?
Stand back, gents! This one is a champion!
How much you wanna bet? (https://github.com/github/linguist/issues/985)
Except that it was totally fixed overnight. No, wait. Not overnight. Over two hours.
Of course that PR isn't being accepted either.
And that would be part of the problem with Github. Emphasis on "pretty cool" visual flair while letting fundamental architecture fly out that is flatly, and very obviously, just plain broken.
I don't think the point was to complain about Limbo being missing. I think the point was to show that saying "Objective-C is the only language which can ever use .m as its primary extension" affects more than just the two languages listed earlier in the PR. The PR itself is about Mercury, after all.
Are people even reading the context of the rest of the PR?
Or if you have any sense of history, languages like Modula-2/2+/3. (And undoubtedly a few (dozen?) others I'm unaware of.)
Nothing new in software development. All the "new" shinies are decades (!) old.
