I’ve heard somewhere that 85% of billionaires are first generation billionaires meaning they made their own money. I’m sure while they were making money they also had similar struggles to you and I.

I think if you work harder, faster, smarter and have some luck you will succeed no matter what and have some extra time to reflect on your life also.

Yes, I don’t understand this either. Nowadays you have to be a senior just to get an entry level position in the USA. There are plenty of mid level developers that are struggling to find a job.

I guess it will be interesting times ahead. I recommend everyone to keep their skills sharp!

Yes, I always point out the journey a lot of them take to the USA is extremely dangerous. I wouldn’t care if it were just grown men doing this since they have some life experience but a lot of times these are children not “teenagers” but literal kids being guided by strangers.

I know people who have crossed illegally through Mexico and the horrors they witnessed, it’s inhumane. So glad you pointed this out in your comment.

I’m a legal immigrant and I had to wait in line like everyone else. How is that fair to people like me when someone cuts in line?

I’m not exactly from a “paradise country” myself so I understand these people very well so please don’t use that “you don’t know their situation” talking point with me. We all feel for them but we need to be practical. Rules are rules and they must be followed. That’s how societies function.

This whole thing comes off as very “edgy”. We just like to tinker with things. It’s really not that deep for most of us.

I don’t want to come off as mean and spoil the article but the author writes he can’t get anything done and the strategies that might help him with finishing things is..

“1) writing a spec (i.e. a plan) upfront, and 2) timeboxing the project by giving myself a deadline.”

Isn’t this just agile? I’m pretty sure every developer already does this, it’s kind of the whole strategy for completing any project.

Not sure what the point of this article was. He could have wrote “make a sprint and stick to it”

I get what your saying but it’s what everyone uses. At this point it’s like saying write assembly instead of C.

Hopefully people come around but I doubt it.

I agree with you to an extent. The problem is they weren’t taught finances at all. Most kids don’t understand that just 5% annually can compound to a crazy amount.

I don’t feel bad for the current kids or anyone who grew up with the internet because they know better. If you have an internet connection and didn’t research loans before taking them out then that’s on you. The new gen or the iPhone generation as I call them are much smarter than us because they see most millennials got a useless degree and work somewhere unrelated. Which is why they don’t listen to us but I don’t blame them. Good on them.

Couldn’t agree more. At this point when hiring developers I don’t even look at the college degree. I could care less.

I know people without degrees that earn much more than those with degrees.

I don’t think development is so difficult where it takes 4 years straight to learn.

A lot of people in America were tricked to go into college and take out huge loans that they may never be able to pay back.

The common push from the majority of generation x to millennials was to finish college. What they don’t understand is that world has changed and even now a college is more of a business as opposed to a learning center. You have for profit scam college everywhere and useless degree mills.

I suggest going to college but only if you really understand the loans your taking out and have a plan to pay them back. I think college is not for everyone and that’s fine.

Oh ok, still a bit strange to post here but in that case don’t take it too hard. Getting banned from a big platform for no reason or a silly reason is like a right of passage nowadays :)

Rabbit R1 was such a dumb product. You have to buy a proprietary piece of plastic to use some flavor of chat GPT.

Never encountered a person with one.
