To get a cut of the compute-cake. See: Nvidia LHR GPUs
It's not too farfetched, given Nvidia previously implemented a LHR GPU model lineup. I can envision them doing something similar to cripple LLMs in the near future.
Its what things like Bard and ChatGPT and BLOOM are all based off of. You need GPUs to load the weights into memory of to run them (typically).
reporting where? Edit, I found this: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1499995-nvidia-drivers-phone...
Do you have a brand you like? I'm thinking of getting a countertop device soon and they sell a "re-alkalizes it" version but I don't know if that's "enough" and of the right type and I'd like to cover my bases in case it's not.
This is a site that steals content and rehosts it and is posing as Reuters.com. Note that there is no proper listed author, the "About" is generic and vague (if you search "Here we will provide you only interesting content, which you will like very much" from their about with quotes on google, you'll see it's used by dozens of blogspam sites, likely a wordpress template placeholder). Please flag it and support original sources and avoid blogspam.
User "JBaum" denying ownership of an article stolen by "James Blobaum" who loves using the word "Baum" in his ramblings. Sure, okay, totally legit. Hackernews isn't for spam or theft dude. Also, where's your SSL cert???
For sure. Their other submissions match the substack by the same name as the author on this site and also matches the OP's username. The content of those submissions are insane ramblings about immortality, Babylon, and "ancient secrets".
"I'm pretty sure he just launched the site and he's working on it" -- you're the site owner, your username matches the author/owner of the website. What sort of spammy shtick are you trying to pull here?
This entire article is a word for word rip from Futurity in 2015 with no credit given: https://www.futurity.org/darwinius-teeth-lemurs-1002342/
Other articles from the site are stolen too, this for example http://thenewworldpost.com/world/health/2022/01/01/black-dea... was stolen word for word (shuffled a bit) from Dailymail: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10080541/Black-Deat... again no credit given. This is just blogspam.
Most of the VPN discussion/coupon subs are literally run by the VPN companies themselves. r/VPNCoupons and r/VPN are run by Surfshark, for example. Nord and CyberGhost also run astroturf rings for themselves too.
I got two of the exact same spam messages in a gmail inbox this morning that was as of yet "unspoiled" and not in some spam email database. Those were probably the first in more than a year.
I see a lot of fake companies/websites list their address as 405 E 42nd St, New York, NY 10017 -- which is the UN's NY HQ. There's a few mailing centers with P.O. Boxes in the area that a lot of fake companies are registered to as well. They must think having Manhattan in their address lends them some credibility.
They've been mass-spamming this on Reddit using multiple accounts and sockpuppeting to promote it too. They also promoted this in a Show-HN 5 days ago as well and it flopped: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29733982
Is that not essentially where we're at now, though?
https://twitter.com/conspirator0/status/1462845583178313734 They were and they have an incredibly shady history.
I can't speak for that user in particular but I use Reddit for music discovery as well. My flow is this: I'll look for stuff with the genre tags I know I like and look for new artists I don't recognize that have those tags. I'll listen to one or two songs and set their name aside if I like them and go back to browsing. After I get bored of looking for new stuff, I'll go back through and listen to the entire discography of that artist and add songs I like to my Spotify or Youtube playlists. I then move from artist to artist that I set aside earlier. After that, I'll look for any collabs they've done and check out the assisting artist or I'll check out the "people also listen to" suggestions on Spotify and start the process over but there instead of on Reddit. That cycle typically lasts about a year before I get the urge to look for new stuff again on Reddit like that.
This is exactly why we stopped using it. Even after fine tuning the parameters and picking VERY good input text, it still got stuck in loops or repeated itself too much even after 2 or 3 tries. It's neat as-is, but not useful for us. Maybe GPT-4 will fix the "looping" issue.
Fantastic read, thank you.
Thank you very much, I've been thinking about something like this for a while and have been meaning to look for a solution. Problem solved, thanks!
Very neat, thanks for sharing. The name sounds familiar, I'm sure I've seen it mentioned alongside BAT in conversations about tipping creators. How's the adoption rate so far? Is there a development roadmap?
You've set yourself apart from the 'grifters' in the Web3 space in your comment but didn't explain much more than that about current use-cases. Could you elaborate on what it is you're making that's so unique?
Edit: Thanks for the interfacing explanation btw, very clear and concise.
I caught Swine Flu in 2009 and really struggled for a few months after but it mostly went away. I can still think of several things that still aren't "right again" even years later though. Worst 2 weeks of my life, hands down.
That 'empty string/purple link' issue still happens to me even on NewReddit. I can find old Galleries that work just fine on both, it's so weird.
I'm aware of one such company that uses Imgur like that and that deals with celebs. Imgur isn't their primary target, it's just a handy layer of abstraction away from the real target so the content can't TRULY be taken down on the target site. Plus, it shows you how many impressions you get for free. That way they can gather up their campaign image urls and views at the end of the contract and show hard results without the need for a fancy, paid analytics dashboard or campaign tracking system.
I couldn't stand magazines back in the day for the same reason. Frankly, magazines are worse in my mind as I've already actually paid several dollars to purchase it. You'd think that'd allow them to get away with less ads as a result but apparently not. TV is the same way - I'm already paying for cable, stop showing me MORE stuff! I cut the cord in 2011, I don't miss it and I'd rather that model of payment+more ads not make a comeback.
Banner ads don't masquerade as content and aren't nearly as screen-covering as that on-average in my experience. The only way this is better is that there's no chance for malicious JS to be served from the ad (Forbes, cough cough)
Odd, only one is showing up for me, that one. Same issue on multiple browsers with extensions off.
This post is just an ad. It's a brand new Substack with literally only one article that's more than 50% ad text. All of the comments here are addressing overall HN sentiment or the title, not the article and the giant ad text which I would think would stick out to more people if they had actually read it??
