Now if only someone could do the same for shell scripts. Packaging, dependency management, and reproducibility in shell land are still stuck in the Stone Ages. Right now it’s still curl | bash and hope for the best, or a README with 12 manual steps and three missing dependencies.

Sure, there’s Nix... if you’ve already transcended time, space, and the Nix manual. Docker? Great, if downloading a Linux distro to run sed sounds reasonable.

There’s got to be a middle ground simple, declarative, and built for humans.

Quick search shows Altera held 30% of the FPGA market. That puts AMD’s $50B acquisition of Xilinx (which holds ~50% of the market) in an awkward light. Using some extremely crude math, Xilinx’s fair market value might now be closer to ~$15B.

Did AMD massively overpay, or has the FPGA market fundamentally shifted? Curious to see how this new benchmark ripples into AMD’s stock valuation.

I once heard in central Anatolia people used to store grapes on the vine. They would trim the end of the vine, pluck one of the fresh grapes and stick it on the trimmed end. Finally vines would be hanged from the ceiling of a cool cellar.

My grandfather told me that the nutrients and moisture within that one grape would keep the others alive for longer.

Well I guess most of us live in filthy cesspools of light. Seriously I wonder what humanity misses out on. I think we would have been a much better species if only we could see our place in the universe every night.

You could calculate hash functions with pen and paper as well. It may be somewhat slow but once you get the hang of it you could calculate a couple hashes a week.

Should we ban pen and paper problem solving? Who is to decide which numbers and operators are public good? Is math in its entirety blasphemous?

Although comparing pen and paper calculations with the greedy wasteful world of bitcoin mining is ridiculous, I think it’s less ridiculous then associating anything you don’t agree with drugs or any other boogieman argument.

Law and ethics are not as clear cut as you are trying to portray. Nature and ecology are precious but so are Personal freedoms. They were not given to society, they were earned with blood and tears and they’re equally precious.
