It's not that big of a deal really. Just a small name change

Rising costs of housing is, almost entirely, due to the fact that individuals are allowed to own more houses than they can use, while most people don't own any. It seems fairly obvious that if you control the housing market, a human need, you can set prices as high as they will possibly pay them.
I'd like to see this person actually get paid for what is essentially a million dollar fix
I'm sure there's a better reason, but I honestly think a major factor for why people think this stuff is important is because Conway called it 'the game of life', and it was a pretty early discovery in computer science. It was basically a recipe for sci-fi imagination and headlines, leading some people to believe this is literally a program about generating cellular life.
The only interesting difference is less posts about Facebook get upvoted.
I guess all business/project/hobby websites should shut down then? Your website won't get very far at all when most people rely on google's search results, browser, and email service.
It is a modest trial of a four day work week. You are so far from disaster. This can only be a good thing, if it doesn't work they stop doing it, but probably it will work because people are more productive when they have time to breath.
Master has multiple definitions, yours is not the same as the one git used.
Ah thanks, i didn't know that
Nope, they have data since the 1800's. Don't think they had search engines back then.
There has not been a gross over-usage of the word exploit in the past 10 years. See google trends, the word's usage is trending downward. Its peak was actually around 2005.
It's almost as if 'marketing' is a form of manipulation
I admire resume liars. The job market isn't fair and you should do anything you can to get ahead. (Employers are going to pull tricks like this, so why not? Just be smart about it)
It is hard to make anything significant without that sort of background though. If your business actually is software, and not just a physical business built on top of software, it's hard to see how you're going to make much money by just gluing canned functions together. Either your own ignorance will do you in, or you'll have to hire someone who actually does understand computer science.
I just... don't understand the science behind this. Have you actually seen how sausage is made? It is just pureed meat with salt and spices. There is no difference between that and a raw steak, from a health perspective. This tells me most of our knowledge of what is an unhealthy food is just based off of some from-the-heart intuition.
You might be surprised to learn that those things are very often processed, even if you get them from your local markets.
It is still a buzzword, because there are still too many possible scenarios even when taking out the 'plastic packaging = processing' part. Using salt to preserve vegetables is processing the same way using sorbic acid to preserve cheese is processing. You have to be specific.
Which one of these is unhealthy? Eh, doesn't matter, it's processed therefore it's bad.
"Processed" is just a buzzword. Any food put into a package can be considered 'processed'. There are thousands of chemicals used in food processing for different purposes. Are they all bad for you? Because that is what the statement suggests.
It's not very helpful in finding out why people are actually unhealthy
The only difference between refined carbs and unrefined carbs is that the outer hull is milled off the grains. This makes refined carbs less nutritious, but it doesn't make them bad for you any more than unrefined carbs are.
The type of person hackernews respects the most - a billionaire - told them that their favourite toy is bad.
I don't think you're wrong (I don't know enough), but it's quite the caricature of entrepreneur culture to say that podcasts are doing journalism better than the journalists.
NYT is one paper, from one city. The scope of print journalism is vast and probably defeats podcasts 100 to 1.
It wasn't banned in the United States, which the OP said it would.
Do you know how many sites would be absolute minefields without google? They incentivise websites to commit to some clean standard so that the 'individual user' doesn't have to run a script every time they visit a website to make sure it's clean. And guess what: whatever script they run will just end up becoming a different google anyway.
Embrace the centralization.
The far left is pretty good at making fun of the right for saying silly things like this, actually.
Wow these books... suck. The ones I read as a kid, namely "If I Ran The Circus" and "Green eggs and ham" are way better than these, in terms of rhyming and illustration. No wonder they fell out of popularity.
gradually titrate them out of the gene pool
Are you advocating for eugenics?
Governments that want to keep their power have to control information. Every country does it differently, but they all do it.
Housing is not scarce though, some people (companies) own 14 houses whilst others have non. It's not a problem rent control can solve, but it's also not a scarcity problem.
The article implies bitcoin could be something other than money, in that it is just a really useful ledger.
I don't really think no one is allowed to say anything controversial anymore. Plenty of national newspapers are willing to give people front-page editorials to say things that are not mainstream. That's hardly a dark age.
