Have you ever been in a situation where this was the case? The only time I've come close, the business was a dog.

I was just involved in the hiring process for a new rec on a team adjacent to mine, and the HR/screening process was a complete mystery as to candidate filtering for outside applicants. So many AI tools making arbitrary judgments from resume content to psychological profiles of candidates, led us to 0 organic people “qualified” enough to interview for an SRE/Devops role. All we hire now is referrals as they are the only ones to get pass automated screening

Claude code and open code with various models. Codex thrown in for good measure here or there and when I hit limits elsewhere

My goal is to cope until retirement

Sounds close to my team. I just fall in line and let the agents do whatever while I sleep, do laundry or game. Check in occasionally to hit “yes” on prompts.

At least that ai slop makes money. I’ve seen human-created slop make nothing and still require the same effort and cost to uplift architecture/code to a useable state.

Slop blobs happen without AI tooling though, unless everyone in the org is completely dedicated to their craft and on the same skill level.

I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, I think the time horizon is long enough that I can make it to retirement.

I tend to agree, but at the end of the day I am providing for my family first and foremost.

This means having to knock out tasks each sprint, whether they tickle my fancy or not. If I can offload that work to the AI “agent”, then so be it.

I don’t feel the need to make my vocation a core part of my identity, so the time savings is worth more than elegantly crafted code or whatever other intrinsic value comes from a hand crafted solution.

They would have just extended them without the political baggage of keeping “trump cuts” around

Can’t help but think that amount of time is better spent elsewhere, and that goes for all video games. A bit sad really.

Funny, psilocybin has been largely detrimental to the mental health of everyone I know.

I mean, this existed long before acquisition. Maybe the response could have been different in the past, but there is nothing to indicate that would be true.

That is awesome thanks for this. I’ve been dabbling in freelance for the past year, but have yet to leap from my regular job. I need to get more comfortable with proactive outreach. I have enjoyed it so far, I just need to build up more clients and increase rates.
