>The symptoms only really present themself at night when going to bed, as I guess I have no other stimuli to focus on. During the day it's basically not an issue.

Do you take night showers? If your house has hard water or your water dept. adds excessive chlorine, then either of those could be the culprit.

>In other words, I had a degree of independence and agency that you normally only see in the Jet Set -- people who get called independently wealthy -- or comfortably well-off retirees. I had more control over my time and my life than your typical working stiff.

No offense, but I would not attribute any sense of freedom or higher degree of control in one's life to receiving alimony. What happens if/when the ex-spouse prematurely dies or has their bank account hacked?

I really enjoy reading your pro-housing arguments. I'm stuck in a debate with a NIMBYist on Nextdoor, and would appreciate your perspective. Do you have an email address I can contact you at? This is in the South bay.

With my local library (Santa Clara county), I've noticed that there is no requirement to revalidate my local address. After I move away, I would presumably join my new library, but I'd still have the option to log back in on my Kobo E-reader using my SCCL membership. I love Overdrive, but I think a lot of users abuse the system in this way.

Even if he took a supplement, it's possible he wasn't absorbing it properly. Most supplement makers are reluctant to include high doses of Vitamin A in retinyl form, because it can cause liver damage. However, vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene has it's own host of absorption issues. In addition to being fat-soluble (i.e., must be taken with a sufficient amount of fat, or else it will compete with any other fat-soluble vitamins in the meal), it is also affected by high dosage of certain minerals. From ConsumerLab:

High doses of ferrous iron (but not ferric iron) or other minerals (calcium, magnesium, and zinc) from supplements may decrease the absorption of carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, lycopene and astaxanthin, from foods and/or supplements. This is likely due to a reaction between carotenoids and the divalent ions of these minerals, making the carotenoids less bioavailable (Corte-Real, Food Chem 2016; Biehler, J Nutr 2011). It is best to take carotenoid supplements at a different time of day than a supplement or meal containing large amounts of a mineral.

Confirmed, Equity does this nationwide. I've transferred leases in SoCal and the DC metro area. There are a number of requirements, but it was extraordinarily helpful to not have to scramble finding a replacement tenant, so that I could just focus on moving.

FWIW, I found your points interesting, and I agree that all mortgages are about the ability to repay. Wasn't that at the root of the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis?

And ability to repay, in my understanding= Capital, Capacity, Credit history, Collateral

-Capital: Down payment, loan fees, closing costs, escrow impounds, reserves, moving expenses

-Capacity: Current income, income history & future earning potential, Amount owed on installment accounts & revolving charge accounts

-Credit history: Current liabilities and past history

-Collateral: i.e., Is the house worth what you are paying for it, and if not, that has to be fixed before closing.

I learned the above through a home-buyer's education class I'm taking in order to qualify for a down-payment assistance program (https://housingtrustsv.org/programs/empowerhomebuyersscc/).
