Ask HN: Those of you who left tech, where are you now?

Feels like I should maybe just do something else. The startup I cofounded with decent funding is starting to flounder and big tech seems to have zero jobs. Not to mention the market has been with a new wave of thousands of ex-faang engineers far smarter than me. Going to college for CS seems like a waste now, but at least I have savings to burn.

Starting to lose sight of the point of doing this anymore...

I have ADHD and unapologetically take adderall.

Yes, there's a stigma but there's also about a 6x improvement in my mood and ability to stay focused on a single task after I take 5mg. I've never developed dependency and generally only take it 3-4 times a week. I've also never really had to increase the dose.

This came after two diagnosis from neuropsychiatrists both reaching the same conclusion.

Being diagnosed at 22 I'm glad I wasn't prescribed adderall as a teen but I loathe how much more I could have achieved in college seeing how much more capable I am now.

I acknowledge it's probably not great for my heart health - but I was so depressed about how I was unable to get anything done or focus on studying before that I'd always make this tradeoff.

Thanks for your positive encouragement - I'm hoping to land something in January this has just been a tough time for me mentally.

I have to say - my most bizarre interview experience was a round 2 "culture fit" interview at Coreweave.

The guy interviewing was way too nice to the point it was weird and the whole interview was him asking about my "best traits" and breaking them down to "get to know me".

Sure thing, do you have an email in your prof here on HN?

I basically trust recruiters less than realtors at this point...

Thanks, obviously things have slowed down now because it's just Nov / Dec which is historically always a slow time of year for hiring. I'm just starting to lose hope because I started fielding my resume about four months ago - only a few bites so far and my emergency funds are running low. Feels shameful to have to dip into my savings.

I'm mostly confused because I made it to a final round for technical product roles at DeepGram and Bilt but I seem to get passed over for almost any other "entry" product or software eng roles.

This is something I've worried about - when I apply to eng jobs I change my TPM role (which still had me coding quite a bit) to "product engineer". Which is accurate and my prev boss would back this.

Thanks, I'm mostly confused when I don't even make it to the intro stage with a recruiter. This is why I'm paranoid that hiring managers see something structurally wrong with my work history.

Thanks for your thoughts - I might do uber or pick up a medical delivery route to supplement my income to make sure I don't burn too much of my emergency fund.

Thanks - I've had other friends who seem to have fared better and I'm basically terrified of having more than a few months of being unemployed on my resume.

It is kind of insane that I had to create a new google account just to change addresses... to another address that had actually had google fiber two years PRIOR to my existing apt...

It's insane to me that a company like Google couldn't figure this out. Also, when I created the new account I was locked out of google payments for 2 days because they thought someone was pretending to be me (after I made the new account). Huge nightmare but at least my 2G fiber works.

If you don't know how to spend it, spend it on expensive office items that can easily be sold on secondary markets - ideally those that don't need ebay etc.

Last year I bought three Herman Miller Aeron chairs and just slowly sold them off on Craigslist for a discount.
