There is a lack of cybersecurity investments in almost every industry. The issue is that the executives making the decisions 1) Usually aren't knowledgable about CyberSec and 2) don't justify the investment because it's not something they can physically point at and take credit for. .

I generally suggest that all dev teams send at least one person that's in the trenches daily to the steering committee meetings and any other decision making meetings.

This way, there's always someone that can keep expectations in check and can relay any minor/major changes back to the team. Ideally, these would be the tasks of a competent PM/Sr.BA but it doesn't always work like that.

Firms like GS, JPM, etc have fatter margins (I think) and can afford to pay devs/strats/etc.

From what I've seen on my end the Insurance firms have started paying somewhat of a premium to compensate for the lack of "excitement" that is associated with the insurance industry as a whole.

100% Agree. I'll take the initial phone screening, learn more about the role and the team, but the last question I always have is something along the lines of: "I know you're extremely so in an attempt to not waste anyones time whats the salary range? This way we're all on the same page before moving forwards"

I have never gotten a recruiter that doesn't tell me the salary when I do this.

When my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer his sister, my aunt who is also a Dev, explained the situation to her team and took some time off here and there to help out. Even if theres nothing your coworkers can do they will be more than understanding, they wont get ticked off if you're late with something. You might notice theres a good chance some of them will pick up the slack and never ever mention it. We're all human and we all have a natural tendency to try and help those that we are surrounded by.

If you take anything away from this is don't keep it to yourself, that never works.
