In the picture it sure does look like a row of evaporative coolers - there was no mention of them in the article - so maybe I'm wrong.

Spectator here: I too am so excited about the upcoming launch I have been hanging out for it and wish them the best of luck too (even though luck has nothing to do with it and plain good engineering does).

I read the SpaceX pages, reports and updates with the same excitement I had when I read about the Saturn V, the Apollo craft the Lunar Lander, the Shuttle, and the engineering and esp. the control computers behind and embedded in all those craft.

To be involved with SpaceX, designing systems and writing and testing the software and the hardware systems they control must be very exciting right now. That would be something!

I like this advice (physical work) and its been in the back of my mind for a while as a way to take a break from the continuous onslaught of pressure to 'keep up' with developments in my craft and to give me time to consolidate what I have learnt in the last 15 year sprint.

I think this is great - it kinda _why ish. I think that if it can be solved using the controls you provide that's good, but if short cuts can be made by hacking the code there is an incentive to try - like adding a loop that fires the cannon continuously, a loop that changes it angle over a range... I don't know - but if the 'cheats' are in the code there is a reason to look at it (the code). They need to be simple (initially). I quickly started adjusting the angle force in the code to just to see if I could.

All good ideas - but it ain't no batman signal.

I switched 25 years of tobacco smoking with e-cigs in several days (4 months ago) I am just now starting to enjoy the sense of smell again (oh how I love the smell of coffee). It's more expensive (for me) than smoking tobacco. I hope to drop e-cigs one day - but for now find them (or is it the nicotine) enjoyable. Stopping altogether is by far the best solution - next, I'd say are these.

For any smokers out there who have been considering trying them out I suggest you give them a go. I think you will find they press all the same buttons in a less harmful way - they replicate the sensation of the drawback.

I've always though that was a good idea - that's why I'm teaching mine Factor.

1. When so much is at stake to err on the side of caution seems reasonable. 2. I have not been in a plane for a while - so can't quite visualize what it looks like - but in the event of an emergency abort on take off, or a landing that goes wrong - having all loose items stored is a head start in ensuring ones iPad does not become an iGuillotine. Just a thought.

Can't help it - Kids (little grownups) can be very creative - what do they care of the science or even the process - they make it up as they go along. I think that maybe that's how some of the creative people in our times are creative. In their 'own little world' is a term often used.

Are you baiting? One must understand the science of creativity before they can say they have creativity-relevant skills wow fella. Cheers - I must have missed that bit - sorry - motors are rated for n starts per hour - because during the start they consume or convert quite a bit more energy then steady state running and get a lot hotter - when they do get too hot the insulation on their little wires fails and they burn out - which does indeed cause a short circuit - it's just that the motors are rarely controlled by the SCADA directly and are more likely to be controlled by the water level in a tank or the pressure in a pipe (using a variable frequency drive) - the control loops are normally tight and local - SCADA's are remote and expected to fail, or go offline. But yes access to the SCADA could indeed be used to influence a motors starting and stopping - so thanks. Humm a motor starting and stopping all the time smacks of a faulty water level gauge or pressure gauge - it get's so hard to to be sure in such matters.

Yeah - Both of you got my up. I too like Wikipedia - and its chock a block full of good stuff - so it seems some folk have taken the time to learn the rules and add to collective knowledge contained within.
