I sometimes deploy perl code at large scale for financial computing where only performance matters: with XS the overhead is low while gaining language flexibility.

Some of the information may be vital to the future healthcare of the patient and would cause serious harm to them if it were lost.
Likewise, what if I accept future risks? I have more skin in the game from losing my records than an hospital losing them anyway.
And in more of a more morally grey area, some information might be harmful to the patient if they had it.
Then what about I refuse having the information, in exchange of the information also being unavailable to anyone else?
Many people here seem to have the view "more information is good" but not collecting it in the first place seems better to me.
Hence I do no healthcare in the US, only in SE Asia where most services are available in English and Chinese anyway.

It's hard to explain. When I read HN, I see the modern equivalent of corporate paper pushers who want to play nice and dream to excel at society game playing by society rules.
This is not the hacker spirit of the old days, which was about doing daring things. Modern ""hackers"" want to learn the framework of the day to put it on their resume linking to github that show they are teamplayer. This way they get a coveted FANG job then get 2.5 kids and a dog, a 401k, rince and repeat as happy cogs of society until the day they die. Lame.

It's a disease of the modern life ""hackers"": they don't want to bite the hand that feed them. To be fair, I don't expect much from people who need a day job to survive. If you want something to bring in a fight, get a Mark 1 trench knife: has brass knuckles for punching (and limit the risk of dropping your knife), a long thin blade for more lethality (easier puncture wound regardless of angle than with a wider blade). And in the kitchen it is ideal to break walnuts :)

Get a USBC mechanical keyboard if that's your thing ; an amd64 tablet with a eink display and enough ports to connect a mechanical keyboard is quite unique.
If you plan to use it as a "laptop", you are missing 95% of the usecase: it's for taking notes with the wacom pen (55% of my use) and using the eink screen as the main screen with a physical keyboard (40% of my use).
The remaining 5% is using the touch keyboard to type a login when I can't be bothered to grab my laptop in the next room
Give it a try. Highly underrated as a reading and notetaking device on top of being one of the rare laptop with eink screen that you can buy.

Instead, get a Yogabook C930 with a dual display eInk + color, and touch + pen support on both screens. Great for notetaking in portrait mode: looks like a book, you write with the pen on the eink side while reading PDF or websites on the other side. Smaller than a macbook air or an ipad. Feels lighter too when held like a book in portrait mode.
Better: Fold over to use eink as the main display in mirror mode after updating the drivers. This suspend the color display to save battery. Ideal with a bluetooth or mechanical USBC keyboard: 2 USB-C ports for charging and connecting a peripheral at the same time.

Windows 10 is going to become a better option for Linux development than MacOSX : before, it was already good with WSL1 and 2, and the lighter options like msys2.
With that, all I need is a better filesystem to move disks with unix permissions.
I predict BRTFS or another "modern" filesystem like XFS will soon be supported out-of-the-box.
