Really enjoyed reading this post, and wanted to make it more broadly visible. I am planning on trying this out to see how far I can push it.

Author of the post here. Just reading the comments so apologies for getting some of the terminology wrong. The intention was never to mislead folk , just wanted to share my enthusiasm for emulation and the fact that you could get working code.

Is this open source? It says the model is the Llama license which is NOT open source.

I can see most companies not spinning up Mastadon servers simply because of the license.

I like this idea and it has lots of ups and I can’t think of many downsides.

I am so happy about this site as a few months ago I had a similar idea after speaking to some relatives who wanted badly to blog but was just terrified of the tech. After chatting for a while afternoon in between copious amounts of tea and cake, we came upon a design that involved pen/paper or a typewritten page, and an app that would convert this into a blog post. I hope this does really well and will be sharing this with that group.

The EU tech companies only have themselves to blame in my view. I’ve been working in tech for over 30 years and it was precisely those EU tech companies that created crap products and treated their customers like crap, that made consumers and businesses look elsewhere. I have very little sympathy I’m afraid as if I’m a business or even providing public services I want the best products, support and customer service. That is all it takes to compete, so let’s see some EU tech companies stop whinging and start serving customers with amazing products and even better service. I’ve seen it in pockets, so I know the potential is there.

Thanks for crafting this document, it’s a great start and good to get the discussions started. For me, when I look at which distribution to use I would probably consider other factors that this post doesn’t touch upon completely. What sort of upstream contributions and activity, support across both cloud and on premise and multi architecture support are just a few that come to mind.

Combination of easy to use editing tools and effects to emphasise creativity together with the sound tracks. It’s often missed but the soundtracks were (still) are a big reason for it’s traction. It’s become the new mtv

In my experience complexity is more a factor of poor governance, management, focus, and purpose than the actual technology itself.

My favourite open source project, still amazing and it just keeps getting better. Amazing work and kudos to all the hard work from the community
