Do you actually have background playback with locked screen? With the latest iOS video will auto pause when screen goes locked in PiP.

The latest iOS release made this more difficult to do via Safari.

I use skipvids.com audio (aud button) mode. It works most of the time in Safari on iOS. You can also watch in PiP (Picture-in-picture) mode.

I am glad someone is writing about this youtube on Chrome desktop regularly consumes over 1 gig of ram. Even running it on FF with uBlock doesn't seem to help much.

When I use 3rd party yt sites like skipvids.com I rarely go above 300 mb of ram

I find Chrome Claude extension more useful for automating tasks online. Before ai I was writing my own macros which basically did the same thing in a more reliable deterministic way.

If they created a simple webview app and framed the website would you use that or the website in your browser? I am just curious to what the OP classes as "convience and accessibility".

I find this an interesting topic. Since many users have requested my websites have an app, but I'm loathed to go through all the hoops of the app stores.

I write my goals. Claude drafts a plan. I then feed it to Claude Chrome extension for live testing. Claude Chrome extension will set up the console inspector, measure response times and change UA if it's part of the plan. I'm sure you could tell Claude Chrome extension "ok make this change on the fly" by injecting JS into the console and do AB testing and output the result in an easy to understand report.

It will be interesting to see how you handle acces to youtube player settings and cc. This is where other player wrappers fall down.

Plyr did a good job of removing the branding via some clever css, but its annoying you cannot access settings and cc. One idea for a cc button is to always have cc on and then toggle the height styling to show/hide it

Claude is good for producing 1 shot polished apps, but you will quickly burn through your allowance.

Chatgpt needs more prompting to get what you want, but its nearly impossible to reach your limit.
