Ask HN: Publishing a Novel

As a disclaimer, I'm not an author by trade. I'm working on a novel because it's one of the things I'm interested in and would like to get the most out of it financially. I'm already getting the most I can out of it emotionally and mentally.

I'm writing a sci-fi novel that will be finished in about two weeks. If any of you have any experience writing novels, how would you recommend publishing it?

There are a number of sources that have recommended self-publishing, but my understanding is that my reach will be incredibly reduced if I decide to self-publish. I don't mind this, but if I can reach a larger audience for a reasonable time and money investment it's something I'd be willing to do.
