I once read that when a person looks up and to the left while answering a question, they are making something up or lying, while looking to the right means they are searching for the answer.

Not sure where we all seemed to hear that one (I'm guessing some movie made it a big plot point), but there's at least one actual study that disagrees:

In short, all three studies provided no evidence to support the notion that the patterns of eye-movements promoted by many NLP practitioners aid lie detection. This is in line with findings from a considerable amount of previous work showing that facial clues (including eye movements) are poor indicators of deception [1]

I read that you can choose your eye movements, and those of other body parts, at any particular moment and deceive anyone who thinks they can determine truths by watching you.

There are even a group of people who are paid to mimic emotions for entertainment purposes.

A lot of people are sheep, NPC, they want to be lead. So it works. Until it doesn’t.

Mr Altman is on the path that most of us can see but his admirers will deny it.
