“the algorithm” was mentioned as being the real risk here and in several breathless mainstream media reports. The authors may be unaware that tiktok has opened the recommendation engine for inspection and code review by their USDS 3rd party assurance company, Ellison, Inc. Oracle also has deep introspection of the data moving in and out of tiktok in the US, per abundant reporting.

I’m not sure why several really important details of the entire technology parter and oversight program (aka project Texas) keeps being left out of the dialogue. It obfuscates motives.

I agree with Stamos, this is an opportunity to get data security right across all social media and internet services, not just shoot a likely losing shot at a single company with a hope for political points.
