Misleading title, and amusingly the banner title is different than the (accurate) title from the actual <title> tag: “Death during childbirth: I knew the risks of having a baby at 45. I wasn’t ready.”

Fascinating read. Especially as the author is both patient and doctor. The surgical team waiting for the bleeding to stop with the patient opened for six hours. What a wake for the living if ever there was one.

I worried that she wasn’t more worried. It was the emergency doc in me, always defaulting to the worst possible outcome, I told myself. I reminded myself that this was not my show.

Strong disagree here. You're at the hospital, they are working on you, this is most certainly your show. I worked in a hospital for years and have many PhD friends that have a really hard time grokking this. I'm not anti-medical establishment, but this attitude among doctors needs to die.
