The article's title is misleading. The "cable that's stealing photos, videos and location data" is a chinese adapter for the iPhone that requires you to download an app before you do screen mirroring. The app itself is then asking you to share data with China and does other things.

The linked article is pure trash, read the original one instead [1] which has been posted here a few days ago.

404Media is a journalistic organisation ran by ex-Motherboard people.
