America broke free from tyrannical corrupt British over 200 years ago and it shows in our attitudes... of course today's corrupt WEF nutters wish they can dupe us all over again ... not happening and this digital currency initiative is dead in the water

Assuming you use credit cards and debit cards over cash.

An E-wallet offers no more control over you than standard debit and credit cards. If this nebulous WEF really wanted to screw you over and had control over these E-wallets what makes you think they wouldn't have control over payment processors or credit card companies? The vast majority of transactions are already digital, all this initiative does really is allow to you handle it via your phone instead of reaching for you wallet.

It might make tracking you more easy, but the technology already exists and is employed to track you. Credit Card companies and payment processors keep track of your transactions and it is trivial for them to trace it to a single individual.

there are lots and lots of regulation on most countries that prevent them from using that information for anything other than billing you.

They cannot sell, offer you services, etc. ...unless you agree to something else, usually hidden in theirs reward program contracts.

All that is gone the second you move to using apple et al instead of a card issuing company.

This is indeed an issue. More and more locking down, attestation etc. Open computing is in danger and it's not just because of wallets. Also media DRM and commercial reasons (that sweet 30% app store margin), adblocking (why Google is introducing attested browsers) etc.

Imagine a device that could do contactless "tap and pay" transactions, be weather resistant, virtually indestructible, fit inside a small pocket and not require a battery..

In all seriousness if the credit/debit card was introduced after smartphone wallets, we would all be moving in that direction

I lose my cards like you wouldn’t believe. I break my phones…but less often than I lose my cards. All cards on phone would be a dream for me. Especially if I could just have my cards tucked away somewhere as a backup.

You only need one phone. You can replace a phone and download all your cards back. A phone has biometric security. A phone is also a camera, an internet communicator, a music player, a movie player, a navigation device.

No, it's not just because it's new.

I'm not doing it because of the privacy implications but I do see the benefits.

My phone always has battery, and even when it doesn’t I can still use the underground via express cards. I haven’t used a card in a few years - not having to carry a wallet around is quite nice.
