It does stand to reason that when you interact with ChatGPT in English, you're tapping into the english knowledgebase of Japan which is going to be less correct and in depth than that of Japanese texts. No different to reading an English translation of a Japanese book, it'll never be an exact transfer of knowledge and emotion.

That said I have found it a pretty good study partner, you just can't treat it like an authority.

If it’s indicative of how they handle their network infrastructure, I’m hesitant to see anything come out of this.

I say this from an anecdotal perspective. I was contracted back in 2018 to do a small 3 month project in perform remote services for a small shipping company.

They needed me to patch up all of their Windows 7 endpoints…all of their endpoints were running Win7, no EDR, no backups, nothing.

I thought this was strange, but after speaking with several other people in the IT sphere this is apparently commonplace there.

Concerns me quite a bit that Japan is so behind the curve with current standards, especially with low hanging fruit like endpoints.

That sounds largely in line with how any smaller company works.

I've worked with a couple large companies in Japan (think publicly listed on Nikkei) and their infrastructure didn't seem any different than those I've seen for similarly sized American companies.

With their operating budget, you’d believe otherwise.

I say small because I immediately compared them to NIPPON or ANA cargo. These guys were still a staple in the business. It worried me that their in-house software could easily be virtualized but they were heavily against the idea.

Perhaps there doesn’t exist a compliance policy or they just don’t care. I hope that particular office is doing ok.

This is something that every country should be doing to preserve their culture

And also for security reasons. Essentially anything that is sent/stored to the US is subject to being taken/copied by security agencies

In that sense, it’s kinda ridiculous how politicians all over the world rely so much on WhatsApp for their private communications

It's really fortunate that OpenAI GPT works somewhat well with Japanese. If it's not, maybe most Japanese people still not realized that LLM is a huge thing due to many people not good at English. But they shouldn't rely on western companies to continue developing for Japanese. Cultural censorship by westerns is another big reason. Apple and Google won for right of censorship in smartphone app market.
