From the abstract, it looks like they used fMRI to look at the neural response to maternal voice vs non-family voices. I guess no data on dada.

I have a 15 year old and have directly observed the "tuning out mom" phenomenon. For whatever reason, my own dad voice still seems to bear weight. It's not clear to mom or I why that is, but I think the general consensus is that I'm less likely to weigh in on smaller things (state of hair, shirt tucking, etc), so that it's generally more "serious" when I'm involved, regardless of whether it's actually something actually more or less serious. Style-wise, I'm much more to coax than to nag or demand. (i.e. Not demand "do this now" but ask "when will this be done" and ensure a definite time is given as an answer and hold them to it)

Does anyone ever have an audio hallucination of their name being called out? (probably by a familiar voice)

Like you can just about tell it's in your head and not a real sound, but at the same time, it seemed to come out of nowhere, not from a stream of related thoughts.

I can't recall it happening anytime recently but more when I was younger.

There's a Justin Timberlake song which contains a subtle sound that sounds exactly like my mom calling me from downstairs, but in a way I can't quite tell whether it's true or imagined.

Decades later I know it is just part of the song, but hearing it still leaves me stopped in my tracks wondering whether I was just called.

Yes, I have had it happen very clearly a few times. It’s always my father’s voice. I’ve also heard a snare drum once and a shopping cart crash once; both were so clear, and so clearly hallucinations, that they’ve stuck with me for decades.

My mother calls for me every time during the guitar solo of Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine.

Reminds me of my childhood memories playing video games in the basement, and always makes me smile. Love that song :)

I have auditory hallucinations. I need silence with earplugs and noise cancelling headphones. I can have subvocal thoughts back and forth with the voices. Sometimes they say my name. Usually it's to get my attention.

Yes, very loudly and clearly sometimes. It has been pretty scary in the past, it had always been on the edge of sounding real. Once or twice a week.
