Sounds interesting: they use crypto currency to pay creators for posts.

They’re called “spill” after the phrase “spill the tea,” and Terrell (one of the founders) said, that they’re leaning into the teacup motif. Even their website sports a Kermit sipping tea meme.

Why build yet another different thing? Why not instead become the best Mastodon instance around? That way they can focus on making a custom Mastodon client and server rather than trying to reinvent things.

If Spill is better than the rest then people will choose it as their Mastodon provider, just as they choose between different email providers.

The problem is monetisation. Facebook and Twitter have the problem, that news organisations want to be paid for news. And so will every other social media outlet.

This will go nowhere. Twitter has always been a "mess" and that hasn't hurt it's adoption.

Yeah, but in the last week, it's been going downhill - abrupt removal of Spaces, Android users not able to like and retweet, and all that :(
