I like anime but dear God those are nightmare fuel. Direct 2D to 3D "translation" never seems to work right, and the glowing eyes are just demonic O_O. It is possible to make them look much better in the real world.

Wow, it looks really nice, I never heard about these people. I don't really see the point in modelling them after humans, but yeah, impressive.

It's interesting how software has yet to match to the hardware. We could have had Johnny 5 like robots helping around a long time ago.

I wonder if they intentionally model these after real people (the one in the video looks kind of like a Cillian Murphy bot, and they have what appears to be a Trump bot on the bottom shelf in the second photo).

Suggestion: hybridize this with the Boston Dynamics robo-dog to make centaur robots.

Challenge: see if the result can carry a cup of coffee across a room without spilling it.

You look at biological systems and then you try and emulate it, and you end up thinking — and I’m not religious — but you end up thinking, ‘How the hell did this happen?‘

Considering that the project has taken several millions of years to complete and the budget was billions of sentient beings born and dead, (including several major extinction events), I am a bit disappointed by the result.

Disappointed by the result of billions of inanimate particles bonding and forming not only self-replicating structures, but adapting to continually self-replicate and iterate on successful/unsuccessful changes?

I’m not disappointed, I’m amazed. Amazed that over the course of several billion years these inanimate particles and structures have progressed to such a point that we can even ponder them and express our disappointment in them.
