Solid insight - I actually tried implementing an AI chat into my app. It's just an internal app for my own productivity purposes with my eCommerce business, but I felt I had a credible use case for having it there. At the end of the day, the work required to get it to a spot where it was useful and not janky was just too much (even with the AI tooling provided by Vercel's AI SDK). And, even though I got it working, I never found a reason to use it that I didn't feel like could just be achieved more smoothly with some buttons and text inputs.

I obviously can't speak for @dudus, but the "fun" is a distraction. Which is not a bad thing! But you open the app with some purpose, stumble upon the feed, and then you scroll. And it's kind of fun.
I don't think anyone seriously expects Amazon's TikTok style shorts to replace TikTok. But, by the same token, I really think it's absurd to suggest that people are going to start going to TikTok to make their purchasing decisions around toilet paper and shampoo.
I find those discounts too, but it's annoying that I have to.
The prices pre- and post- pandemic are undeniably higher for staples. I used to pay $4.99/lb of ground beef at regular sticker prices at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc. back in 2019. Those same offerings are consistently $5.99+.
To some it's certainly a small increase, but I see similar impacts across other products as well, and it all adds up. For example, Kerrygold butter used to go for $5.99 and now regularly goes for $7.99. Almond Milk used to be $3.99 ($2.79 on sale), and now routinely goes for $5. Most Cold Brew products I purchase have gone from $5.99 to $6.99 or $7.99. And Cream Cheese is one of the worst - 2 bars of Philadelphia Cream Cheese used to be $6 and now regularly sell for $9 - $10.
It's everywhere. I'm in NYC / LA, so might be different elsewhere (I'm sure these prices look insane to most people outside of cities).
Pumped to be able to explore this repo and watch it grow. There aren't a ton of large-scale Next/React OSS projects out there, and this one's absolutely premo. Also really great to see an OSS project in the personal finance space, especially considering the lack of other really good software out there for this usecase.
Wild guess, but perhaps it's the - (dash)?
