Anybody know why these web crawling/bot standards are not evolving ? I believe robots.txt was invented in 1994(thx chatgpt). People have tried with sitemaps, RSS and IndexNow, but its like huge$$ organizations are depending on HelloWorld.bas tech to control their entire platform.

I want to spin up endpoints/mcp/etc. and let intelligent bots communicate with my services. Let them ask for access, ask for content, pay for content, etc. I want to offer solutions for bots to consume my content, instead of having to choose between full or no access.

I am all for AI, but please try to do better. Right now the internet is about to be eaten up by stupid bot farms and served into chat screens. They dont want to refer back to their source and when they do its with insane error rates.

As many have stated, I would assume more than 38%. But good quality content is rare and the dynamic content made page combinations go infinite 20 years ago.

We are maintaining 25y old urls is a bit ehh. cumbersome, and I sometime wonder if its worth it. Most of the traffic seem to come from bots and they do seem to learn some of the 301's. It seems to be good for SEO, etc.

Some users also gets redirected to the content on the new urls. It feels a bit like helping an elderly person over the street to where the shop is.

Anyway, I hope that bots and humans trust our services more.

Everybody always talk about how difficult it is in space and how much better earth is. Wish the debate would be more about all the possibilities in space or on other planets. What can we do with zero gravity? For all the bad things with living on Mars, could there be some amazing benefits, new materials and so on..

Im a huge SpaceX fan, but Blueorigin's New Shepard does seem more robust. Maybe just because its a smaller and more thick rocket, but somehow by not being as spectacular it makes space travel more "normal" as we all hope it someday will become.

Comparing REST to SOAP, is to me like comparing HTML to SASS/LESS.

SOAP had so many flaws, no need to repeat. But the fact that you could not trust that SOAP software created using Microsoft software would work with something created with Java software was a disaster. Sometimes I ended up building custom SOAP libraries to connect with the other services. It was promised to solve all our problems, but ended up creating more.

REST is not a "standard" library, it is just a basic guideline on how to use the HTTP protocol "out of the box".

What the author seems to be looking for, is one hammer to fix all problems.

If you are spending too much time writing REST services, maybe your frameworks are flawed, you could be automating more or your interface is too complex?

But, it boggles my mind why so many people don't believe global warming can be man-made. I know you can have disagreements, scientists can be wrong, a lot of things can contribute to things heating up, an so forth. But to be 100% sure that its not man-made, I dont get it. Is it because these deniers grow up in a eco system so large that they dont sense human interference, is it pure denial or ?

Another hammer to a multifaceted problem, keep in mind that people have a lot of different use cases where JSON REST API's are the lesser evil.

I only skipped through the spec for gRPC, but the protocol seems very limited. I dont like the 'gRPC status codes', where HTTP status codes at least can be grouped in ranges.

The abstraction from the technology/protocol should not be the issue compared to the abstraction from the core business logic. When handling multiple consumers, customers and technologies I tend to worry more about where logic is handled and where data is stored, compared to how its transferred.

joke aside, Adobe should not be worried just yet. It seems to be just a image tagging service or a terrible drawing application. When I draw a face of a cat it suggests a body of a cat. When I draw a rocket is suggests a glass of vine and so on.

The QuickDraw game was fun and a good idea, but basing a drawing application on "topics" from that game seems like a bad choice.

I love using Twitter, but what are the company doing ?

As a tech person, I understand that the platform can be difficult to scale, security, fake profiles, etc. But besides that? From an outsider, it seems like everybody is doing operations and no innovation in any area is present.

Twitter's homepage is still only a registration to closed social network like Facebook. People dont `get` twitter, and why join when it looks like just a facebook with text-limit?

Tweets are mentioned all over the news, but still people are not using Twitter ? I can only imagine the amount of `Trump traffic` generated.

Sorry the rant, I really want Twitter to succeed, because I dont like Facebook, I use Instagram because of family and Snap because of friends. But Twitter is like Hacker News a thing I just love.

My oldest son has adhd+autism. It is difficult to explain how hard it has been for him and for us as parents. The social and school situations is always a problem, it is one day at a time and we all try not to break. He looks like any other boy, but emotional(anger, nightmares, .. ) it is a roller coster and even his special teachers has a hard time.

So with that, I wish future parents will have it better and maybe some autism detection will help with early diagnostics. I can list so many things that my son cant do, that other children can. But at the same time, he sees things very uniquely and any groundbreaking invention will come from a boy like my son and not from my other "normal" children. Autism can be terrible , I wish that I could spare him all his troubles, but in some way the Autism is also a gift.

I cant help but wonder if some of our brightest minds all had some diagnose and was just strong enough to survive the "normal" life.

Best wishes to any person with autism and even parents struggling out on the interwebs.

I have loved .net as a framework and c# as a language, but the bashing is just as well part of the community itself.

What about the c# developers hating vb.net or java? What about .net experts bashing jvm, php, node ? What about windows users bashing *nix for GUI? ahh the list is long, from both sides.

Frameworks and Languages are fine, but what have you actually done with your stack?

Apple snatched a few Tesla employees and a few people has said that Apple are working on a car. Seems obvious.

Has anybody considered that it might be other form of transportation? Maybe an electric motorcycle or some other cart? All their devices is very personal, could be a personal transportation device?

Apple's mission seems to be to create the best products they know how to build. But environmentalism is pretty highly valued at Apple, so it seems likely that they will move towards things that they think will benefit not only their costumers but also the environment.

But Tesla's mission seems to be about accelerating the adoption of electric cars. They need "everybody" to produce electric cars, so it is in Tesla's best interrest that they build a car. It will be interesting to see if Apple picks up on Tesla's R&D, with the opensource patents and maybe even a Tesla Gigafactory.

But very interesting to follow, hope they make a car and hope they make it great. But I am afraid they lost their cocky edge a few years ago, so it will probably just be a nice new car.

I know naming is one of the hardest things in Computer Science, but ".net" always stroke me as the worst name ever. Just like C, C#, Go and Node. You wonder if they sat down and said "Lets take over the internet, what word do people use the most?". I remember when I started using .net when it was in beta 15y ago, searches on "c#" or ".net" simply wielded no results, because of naming and search engine limitations.

When .net launched, it introduced vb.net, that gave Visual Basic support. Not a smooth transition, but it gave some developers a bridge to stand on. I wonder why Microsoft didn't just skip the .Net name to signal a new change in both technology and philosophy instead of getting heads blown up by old developers not understanding the switch.

I never understood why Google tried to create a "closed social network inside the web", when Google (almost) is the web.

The technology behind Google+ seems nice tho ( so was Wave ), very snappy but that is probably because of lack of users. I like some of the communities there, but it seems to die slowly.

At the same time, a lot of people never gave G+ a chance, because they felt Google already had too much power. It felt like giving Google the "missing link". At least, that is my experience.

I think it is very "dangerous" to say mobile = smartphone = iOS + Android, at least that is what I hear people say.

What about all the billion devices we get in clothe, toys, tracking, etc?

You can make insanely fast and small hardware today, and it will be used for awesome stuff. That is not just because you have a smart-phone in your nasty little pocketses. .-)

mine was a ZX Spectrum 48k - have had a gazillion devices since that, but it was never the same. One of the fondest memoeries whas drawing my sprites on grid paper and then getting them to animate while pressing the keyboard..

Microsoft has become much better, but still not sexy. Don't ever think they can fix everything for you, find out what they do well and what suxx and then do workarounds. Still too much microsoft and too little webstandards.

They upgrade more and fix more bugs, but this also break more stuff. Asp.MVC upgrades can be a pain..

.Net Core, C#, Linq, etc.. all very cool. Can make some stuff that performs very well, but can be very tricky to scale.

Asp.net i still too slow and too heavy.. taking >1min to start a asp.mvc site? It feels like some old grandpa compared to Node.js, Go and even PHP.

Powershell is still behind

Window Server administration can be very slow, .. how can it take 30seconds to draw an Event log ? Really miss ssh or even telnet.

Windows Services and schedules can be a pain. How can "access denied let the service run forever without notification??"

The license system is crap, they make their costumers feel stupid when they cant figure out how to renew they Action Pack's, etc..

And their crappy sales ppl, trying to push Sharepoint because they hear the word software and web.

So I really regret working with microsoft, althought I like some of .Net and C#, but what does one do for a good project and a salery.

Next project will not be .net for sure..
