As someone who have done this for more than 10 years professionally and being doing computer stuff since mid 90's, it was fun at first, but staring the computer screen is not good for one's health. Issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome or eye problems often comes up. Jobs involves staring at screen ought to limited to a few hour max per day.

Please read @hnlmorg in the sibling thread. PowerShell, etc seems to be ms business move to woo developers (oh we have a shell too now).
Thanks for the explanation. Is there a way to NOT use docker. For those of us who are NOT on linux, and are quite comfortable with postgres install and running. Would prefer just a postgres connection string.
Hmm, wouldn't the same work on Linux or other Unixish system?
it's getting email delivered to your recipients using Google or Microsoft severe email servers.
That's why one ought to do ip warming on the ip and contact different big email provider to get the ip white listed. It is not impossible. Maybe ought to be a service to do all that bureaucratic stuff.
Yes indeed it has. However, since incidents like this, we can ask practitioners to not do this, or at least not force doctors to digitize records. There are certain things are just NOT mean to be digitized.
I don't care what encryption we are using. Therapy notes should always be in paper and locked in therapist office. Medical info should have NEVER being digitized.
If you are already using postgres, then postgrest for backend, and solidJS for front end.
Fuchsia is in production; in people's homes today. You can't kill the whole project without a plan for those devices. What if there is a bug in the kernel? Who's going to fix those devices, who's going to ensure a security update comes out?
Given google's track record (cutting that RSS feed) wouldn't surprise me they would just cut the whole project. They main bread and butter is somewhere else. It is time to move away from this company product.
What's not to like! 0K CSS, responsive, works in desktop, mobile and tablets, and not to mention blazing fast load speed.
No I think pretty most real old school developers prefer that, and it reads alot better on Lynx/Links2 type of browser. Browser != chrome || firefox,
Good luck if you are using one of those SPA over engineered hipster framework.
yeah don't really like all this. I mean if ppl are use to Dockfiles or dock compose files, then just stick with that can change the underlying tech to Nix, firejail, fire cracker or whatever. It is quite annoying to have a mega corp popping up with these different container tech that pretty much does the same thing.
Another interesting one is technology. Japan got trapped in the 90s, the fax era, and it is difficult to change. Will also the USA and Europe get stuck technologically as the population grows older? Again, it is to be expected.
Would beg to differ. Japan is one those nation with extremely advanced space, robotic and nuclear tech. They can be a nuclear power over night if they are allowed to legally. Far as space, they landed probe on asteroid for space mining (https://www.space.com/41898-hayabusa2-deploys-hopping-robots... ).
same could be said about google replacing imap/smtp as "Insecure Apps" Many developers jump on the gmail/gh band wagon is because they claim to support open standard. As these company replaces these open standards may be time for people to leave the platform.
Just awful. 10 years in the making (if you can call endless bikeshedding committee meetings the "making" of anything) and still barely usable.
This seems like the norm for tech now days. A lot of meeting and work and nothing major or significant really gets done. Seems like the the whole industry is about making it easier and simpler for new developers to get develop.
Regarding React, ES should just stick and simplify E4X that would just really make all these front end lib not necessary.
when I click a link to someone's profile on the internet, I can't see if I follow them or not unless they are on my server. Then I have to copy their url, go to my instance, search and follow. Too much friction for a simple and one of the most important actions of the platform.
I get that is quite a UX/UI problem. However, given what is now known about FAANG and big tech corp, I would rather have my data unreliable and use bad UX/UI for online exchange then to use the mainstream big corp platforms. Personally I don't want to be a product.
Ultimately I think that's why Python has gained more traction than Ruby, it's an "easer" language to follow and start with. Ruby is probably a more fun and intellectually stimulating language to work with though.
May be now, but for a long time when RoR first came out, many people pick python instead of Ruby because scalability. Maybe a lot has improved with Ruby, and with introduction of Crystal, that may not be an issue any more.
Seems like the model has some kind of a USA centric worldview bias?
Pretty much everything in English now days has that tendency. It is quite annoying tbh. It is no longer a US centric world any more.
One problem is not just the influencers peddling their books and their bullshit, it's also the eco-system that sells the dream itself.
The word 'influencer' is already a red flag. Personally wouldn't touch anything with that word in it with long pole. It won't be too long before that word is morphed into another buzz word.
Also netsurf is a good one, if you don't really care about using js. And google seems to still work on it.
