I used to contribute a lot to SO a few years back into a pretty niche tag, and I've noticed the same trend which drove me out of participating. Still a pretty good resource, but the number of opportunistic people who are there just to get these silly points is too damn high.

If the poster changes employer (or accepts a promotion), the 10 year clock is reset to 0.
This couldn't be more wrong. there is this little thing known as AC21 clause where you can change employers after some part of your green card has been pending for more than 6 months. This doesn't reset the green card clock at all if you're waiting to be current, but you do have to do the first couple phases again with the new employer (which are really quick)
I have seen many people I know use this to change employer with no problem. If someone under green card is unable to change employer, chances are they just can't find a better job.
Also it is wrong that you can't accept a promotion. For example going from software engineer to senior software engineer is fine. As long as the new position is at least 51% similar to the previous one you are fine, and it is easy to prove on paper with a little bit of magic with your lawyers.
Also wrong that you are locked at the same pay... Seriously I have never heard this yet, where did you get that? I know plenty of people (and myself included) who while waiting for the green card got multiple raises with no problem.
The funny thing is that words differ based on context. So if Github wishes to get into the game of automatically banning repos based on "bad words", they'd need to consider it in the context of each language. For example "retard" in French means "late", so should a repo from a French dev be banned because he used "retard"?

Stopped reading there. If you're better off running the same computation on your laptop, you're just not dealing with real big data and so you don't need any distributed systems. Simple as that.
Yes in the case of Green Card I agree you can become a captive if you're still waiting for your I-140. That being said, the DoL is currently reviewing the rules and should allow portability of the PERM in the near future as directed by Obama's announcement last Thursday, so when this finally happens there should be no longer talk of captivity even for Green Cards since PERM really doesn't take that long (unles syou get an audit...)
The H1-B program keeps the worker captive
Let's be serious a few minutes, no H1-B worker is held captive at all. I've been on H1-B for 4 years and still on it, and have changed employer twice with no issues.
The only case you can make is that if a H1-B is applying for a Green Card then he can have to wait a while before moving, but it's nothing to do with H1-B itself.
gtalk is still the default IM in pretty much everyone I know from different social circles. Even fb messenger during work hours I tend to see pretty much everyone in gtalk while fb is very sparse. And don't get me started on whatsapp, I don't know a single person who uses that, and nobody seems to even be aware what it is when I ask around. I guess they all have different use cases. I for one have been and will stay with gtalk.
