Looks like for you SOLID is just so obvious and easy that it's not worth even thinking about. Maybe that's a sign you're working on code that is already adherent to it. Try working on projects that are violently against it, while still being a classic Java-like codebase to appreciate it.

I work on a big codebase, where most of the code is in Singletons and static methods, no interfaces, no DI frameworks. Maintaining this system and making serious modifications to it is a serious engineering effort, adding weeks to simple changes.

Java date/time handling is plain beautiful. I'm glad other languages like js started adopting the same approach.

But likely, 2 planes hit the factory, and one missed. Only the miss that hit residential area is reported by government. I see this type of news all the time in Ukraine: "russian rocket hits a maternity hospital", while there is a huge factory in 300 meters that gets hit regularly, with no reporting about it.

It is just listening to noises that would distort other unpleasant sounds in a way that they stop being distinguishable/audible. Not a therapy, just masking them temporarily. I know when the risk of disturbing noises is high, and turn on the noise beforehand, or right after it starts. Like, there is a kindergarten near my house, it is noisy, but predictable. So every day I close the window and turn on headphones during the time children are outside.

The therapy, unrelated to this coping approach, was focused on figuring out why I got sensitive to some noises in the first place during childhood. Very individual, but to give an example, appearance of stepfather in my life, whose eating habits were conflicting with the way I was raised before.

I have misophonia too, related to chewing sounds. It actually developed in offices. I don’t really go to offices anymore. But the thing that definitely helped was listening to violent noises: wind storm in the forest, sound of jet engine, etc. Naturespace app for phones have some really high quality recordings. Well, that and psychotherapy. My mental health directly allows me to spend mental resources resisting all these emotions.

And that cheap beeping sound of every appliance is just so obnoxious. You want to wash laundry overnight to lessen load on electricity generation during blackouts? It would beep for 30 minutes when it is done. No way to disable it but to wake up and turn the button. When everyone does it, the whole apartment complex is filled with beeping sounds all night.

I prefer the sound of air alarm now.

In Ukraine last year we had scheduled blackouts. Let me tell you about the joy of waking up every other night to reset temperature alarm of the fridge. It could not be disabled, and it would beep for hours. My neighbors were not pleased when I was not at home for a week.

I’m Ukrainian. Everyone here has a relative or friend who participated in the cleanup of Chernobyl. There were hundreds of thousands people doing this job for years. This tragedy is one of the defining tragedies of our history. Everyone learns about it in school.

No, it is impossible that we put any military hardware near any of the nuclear plants (besides air defense systems far away from them).

It is very difficult for external observers to verify who shelled the plant, as you need specialized radars for that. Russia has them, and it would make this data public if it could prove that Ukraine did it.

The idea that Russia is using nuclear blackmail, but reframes it as “Ukrainians are doing it” is way more plausible for me.

If NATO was at war with Russia, it would be absolutely clear for everyone.

Iran and North Korea help Russia with military supplies, and there is no question if Ukraine is at war with them.

There are huge coal deposits that Ukraine relies on. Some export of coal was going on even during years of Russian occupation. Ukraine needs them to be energy-independent.

Russian language wasn’t banned. I’m a russian speaking Ukrainian. Everywhere I go I can speak russian. Legislature was changes to require workers to greet in ukrainian, yes. However, there are no restrictions on anyone speaking any language. This measure is supported by me, and most of my friends, as a way to counter-balance russification, a centuries-long process of forcing russian language in every sphere of life.

It is difficult for me to switch to Ukrainian, but I support any measure for next generation to use the language of our country.

While politics is generally broken, and yes, oligarchs control most of politicians and state media, we are moving in the right direction. There is a strong civil society. Some push against corruption. Some help army. Millions of people donate to them. We have had a huge breakthrough with anticorruption in the past years, with new specialized agencies and organizations successfully prosecuting top officials.

People on the streets in Kyiv talk about possible war all the time, and a lot of them are prepared. I think we are generally used to the war already, so recent developments did not in fact change a lot in people’s lives. However, I see some of my friends moving abroad, some to western regions. Thousands are joining Territorial Defense Forces. We are definitely stressed and worried now.

No one sells fake IDs in the open, especially in Maidan. Those are just covers.

Ukraine had a huge drop in GDP in 90s, and we are slowly regaining it. However. Huge part of the USSR economy was military-oriented. It is true that most of the factories in defense industry, and related heavy industries were closed or slowed production since then. We are making a switch to the economy that works for peoples needs.

Every Eastern and Central European country joined NATO because of their fear of Russian aggression. Every former Pact country switched sides not to repeat history of being commandeered by Russia. That whole alliance was born to protect members from Russia. The simplest explanation is no one wants to be occupied by Russia so that Russia does not feel “threatened”.
