I buy people lunch and sit on the curb eating with them and attempting to understand them.

I clearly don't have the same people on the street as you do. You should not be just sitting down and having lunch with people who are having daily psychotic breaks or are otherwise aggressive. You can't have a conversation with someone who is constantly riding the line of ODing. I have a regular I see who runs around in the road screaming at cars and people.

The very incomplete "down on their luck" view of homelessness is killing progress in my city.

Because you need effort + the ability to create value, not one or the other. Some people have one but not the other and seek out help to bridge the gap.

People are so caught up in the 3I/ATLAS stuff, for example. Should we beam a message to it? What should we think of it? It's a circus.

Is it really a circus? Seems almost everyone who knows what they're talking about says it's just a natural object.

Anything can be a circus if you listen to people who don't know what they're talking about.

I wonder if OP has some kind of color blindness that makes his examples make more sense?

I am able to parse the status quo example way better than his ideas.

My theory is helped by his use of a yellow background on black text, which is horrific to read.

You can't just look at units sold, you have to look at net units sold because the version of the product existed.

For example, if 5.9 million of those 6 million people would have bought the larger iPhone model anyway, then you didn't actually gain much by offering the Mini unit.

I have no idea what those numbers are, though.

It's so difficult though that it shouldn't even be in the same conversation as someone who has so far not been able to get to a healthy weight.

It's telling a beginner that it's possible to do an expert level skill, without the beginner understanding that it's an expert level skill. It's yet another diet that will fail for that beginner.

Cleanup doesn't get me a raise or promoted. In a world with constant threats of layoffs, cleanup may even be penalized depending on what's rewarded. "Clean up your shit" doesn't work when my job is on the line.

It needs to be rewarded properly to be prioritized.

That's why "problem" is in quotes. It's a self-inflicted and purposeful problem that trades a unified perception of Android through flagship devices for broad reach.

That's pretty reductive.

Having enough money to buy "almost whatever" allows for real happiness to happen. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it opens the door for it.

Family, friends, love, hobbies.

- Financial hardships are one of the top reasons for divorce.

- Building and keeping loving relationships and friends is a lot harder when you have to work 60-80 hours a week.

- Funds to have hobbies so you can do what you truly want to do rather than what pays the bills.

A good fulfilling life is simple (but usually not easy).

Not to sound like a tin-foil hat but odds of achieving something like this increase by the day.

Where do you get this? The limitations of LLMs are becoming more clear by the day. Improvements are slowing down. Major improvements come from integrations, not major model improvements.

AGI likely can't be achieved with LLMs. That wasn't as clear a couple years ago.

However, I suspect its secret is that it's really a show for parents with young children that just happens to hold the attention of kids.

That's how a lot of successful children's movies/shows work in a way.

Have you ever rewatched older kids movies as an adult and realized how many adult-level jokes they slipped in that you never noticed as a child?

If you're asking parents to spend 1.5 hours at a movie theater, you better throw in some adult humor in there as well.

Well, most other groups have had a rough go at it throughout recent history, and often have to approach the workplace differently because it takes a long time to reverse some of our previous mistakes.

We considered many black folks property until 1865, and we had segregation of some schools in the 1960s. We didn't let women vote until 1920. We put Japanese people in internment camps until 1946. Gay folks couldn't marry in all states until 2015. Do I have to list more?

If you don't think this kind of stuff leaks into the workplace, then I don't think you're paying attention.

Support, networking, mentorship

I get plenty of that elsewhere. Do you have issues finding support, networking events, and mentorship programs?

ERGs specifically tend to group those generic, open-to-all programs together and add another layer of `navigating the workplace as [insert ERG demographic]` that doesn't really make sense if you insert "white man".

As a white man who used to work for G:

There was a ERG for literally every single race except White people. "Just join one of the others" was what they told me.

What would an ERG for white people even do? What would you want from it?

Nonwhite employees in my org also got a special mentor who helped them get a leg-up in the company.

There are general mentorship programs, too. Usually focused on career development. I was a part of the main one.
