If you want to check out the deep end, here's some writing which captures some of the _vibe_ of the community building this sociotechnical space https://coolguy.website/writing/the-future-will-be-technical...

There are many apps built on Scuttlebutt (the p2p database/ protocol Patchwork is built on)
Check them out here : https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/applications.html
That site also has a good FAQ and other background info.
good idea, #somebodyshould implement it!
If you're familiar with terminal, you can start the app, connect to a pub, have a play, and when you want to reset _everything_ including your identity, run :
``` rm -rf ~/.ssb ```
(this assumes mac / linux) Next time you start Patchwork a new identity will be made and you'll be starting from fresh
Some of the code you might be interested is _in_ scuttlebutt, as in there's a git implementation that lives in this p2p database / network. It's called git-ssb, and it has a github like interface.
https://github.com/clehner/git-ssb Here's a window into this p2p land : https://git.scuttlebot.io/ go gentle on it, it's a little server
Welcome to the cloud proper
it's like federation, but at the level of a user. Much easier to set up, much easier to curate / moderate what you want to see. There's still emergent community in the space, it's just not tied to the politics of hardware
scuttlebutt is my main social media these days... oh and in case you're looking for git that's not wedded to github via your comments and issues, scuttlebutt plays really well with git - you push comments and code into your gossip-cloud together
horcrux! also found here : https://www.npmjs.com/package/ssb-horcrux
The part which splits your key is now automated and part of Patchbay. I'll build the resurrection part when someone needs it
that's pretty much it. You store a copy of your world of content out to 2 degrees of connection. Messages are gossiped along lines of trust (friendship)... technically it doesn't even need the internet, just computers periodically bumping into each other and gossiping
you might like to check out secure-scuttlebutt : http://ssbc.github.io/scuttlebot/
it's a gossip based network / database.
Check out our first active app : http://github.com/ssbc/patchwork
apologies, DNS hickup, try www.loomio.org
groups can set their own threshold for entry. one option is manual approval where the applicants email is visible to coordinators and the applicant supplies an introduction. simple but quite effective
for auth at the moment we have (in no particular order): google, facebook, persona
it's an interesting approach. I would be interested to see whether world-politics is capable of generating and addressing a range of diverse perspectives.
in my experience, without a focus on dialogue this isn't easy.
good to know, we're on cloudflare, and do have caching in place. were there any pages in particular that were slow?
appreciate your skepticism, thanks for sharing that.
for some context, Loomio is a bootstrapped startup that, though unlike many startups we're not selling equity nor selling advertising, because we believe these investments compromise neutrality. We're not doing this to get rich or to get someone else rich, we're doing this because we think it's something that can make a difference. And it already is
keep asking good questions
I work on we've got amazing feedback from a huge range of collaborative projects, from community bookstores to linux distros.
