I like your analogy so I will use it in my counter argument. I even have a personal example!

In my last place, there were no ethernet ports, and there was no shot that my landlord would install any. Coaxial wasn’t correctly wired up either. So my two options were to either move my setup into the kitchen, or to run an Ethernet cord up into my room.

I chose the second option to not monopolize the dining room table. It wasn’t pretty but my roommates were happier with some painters tape on the walls than my computer being in the kitchen.

I think a similar thing can be said for people who live in remote areas, it is about compromise. In this example it’s low internet speeds, traveling to get groceries if you live in a food desert, or paying more for utilities.

People prefer what they prefer. And if their preferences are worth their cost of the compromises, then they are going to go with their preferences.

It’s unreasonable to expect someone to move / abandon their preferences because they may not make sense to others on paper.

Asking in good faith: how is your experience working with vanilla JS on a team?

While I’m not the biggest fan of Nextjs for my own solo projects, I really enjoy using it at work. Leaning into the opinionation it provides/encourages keeps my team from bickering too much about how to structure things.

It’s really nice to say “this is the idiomatic way of doing it according to the docs” and for everyone to nod their head. Whereas pages in our legacy PHP codebase look completely different depending on who implemented them.

I swear I have read either this exact or a very similar comment before. Same gist about a bike computer iOS app, and one of the models giving up.

As an aside, big thanks for Caddy! Really helped me get my greenfield project off the ground and it simply “just working” out of the box was one less source of errors I had to worry about when onboarding my team.

I just graduated college and I’ve never heard of this. Can’t find anything about it online either.

You can get a functional Apple Watch on Facebook for 50-100 bucks. So not much of a signal for status.

We have much sillier, trendier accessories to choose from :)

nit: “Is this real” dialog took a bit to load on mobile, a placeholder would be nice

Same here. My only complaint is I wish there was a way to make apps floating by default and then you would specify which ones you want tiled.

IME a lot of apps are easier to use in their default state. I really only use my web browser, text editor, and terminal in tiled mode.
