Nerd nostalgia, these games are from the 80s/90s and it's about making them freely available under a Creative Commons or similar license.
There is a finite amount of them - 2^32, some 4.3 billion - the limitation stems from using 32-bit values to express them. We cannot have more added, as the "capacity" of the 32-bit IP address value to provide different numbers has been exhausted by "assigning" these blocks of IP space - back in the old days of the Internet, large blocks of IP space were given to large organizations (such as Xerox mentioned in the article), now cloud hyperscalers are buying them back at a premium so their customers can use it to host things.
Not throwing a tantrum on Twitter is much easier than conducting any kind of military operation.
I've read about a hundred of Rachel's posts and never thought "but who/what company was this actually, specifically, by name", just enjoyed the stories. I mean yeah something something facebook, big places needing big troubleshooting, but in the end I think it's irrelevant to most people, as most people don't work in SV.
bash (and other shells), coreutils, pipes, git, text/cli utilities etc. work just fine on WSL, I'd call them Linux tools. My in-shell workflow consists of using mainly those + VSCode (with the WSL plugin) + ssh'ing somewhere now and then, and it's entirely sufficient for this purpose. I haven't tried running typical webserver/db services on it though.

"You get used to it, I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead."
It's a disassembler/binary analysis tool, widely used for creating, for example, cracks/executable patches for games and other programs. https://hex-rays.com/ida-pro/
hey that's pretty cool! just installed and works nicely on zsh
You overdraw account? Jail. You withdraw deposit? Straight to jail, right away. PayPal has the best customers in the world, because of jail.
Poland's got the Formoza unit, such an operation would certainly be within their capabilities.

Not that I believe that would be orchestrated by the Polish gov.
Certainly some features are common between the two, like the power saving one - albeit it's permanent.

Electoral justice? As in someone (typically a volunteer) that overseers the election process? I suppose, I'm not from the US.
You might want to check out Foxhole, it ticks plenty of boxes on what you've described, but it's more on the action side. It's a MMO combat game with a persistent world reset between every "war" (each one takes between two - several weeks realtime), players need to work together on fighting the other side, fortifications, logistics and strategy to defeat the enemy. It's pretty fun, albeit the camera angle gets a while to get used to.
+1, some good stuff over there, all the HBO classics and new movies are available quite soon after release - watched the new Batman yesterday, about to rewatch The Wire. Also the new platform is really improved in terms of usability, it the old HBO GO service which HBO MAX replaced was really bad with buffering and "adaptive" quality which somehow was always 480p for me. Now it's crisp and nice.
The majority of society will not even be aware of such a change, because the majority goes with the default settings provided to them. Also source on people agreeing with BigCo being helpful, please.

A world where a corporate entity (or any entity for that matter) tries to interfere with the way we communicate is not "better". As someone wrote in this thread already, tools we use are an extension of ourselves, and we should be able to form whatever thoughts and opinions we want, without any sort of "influence", no matter how minor, even if it's optional. People go for defaults and this seems like a giant slippery slope.
Check out Graveyard Keeper, while a mildly more morbid vibe, the gameplay loop, graphics and general feel are quite similar.
Definitely worth a try, but I had to mod it a little bit to make the energy mechanics a bit more forgiving and to speed up the gameplay a bit - YMMV.
Here's hoping to a whistleblower...
Absolutely, and I'd even call it a rite of passage to lock yourself out in some way, having worked in a couple of DCs for three years. Low-level tooling like iLO/iDRAC can sure help out with those, but is often ignored or too heavily abstracted away.
One thing I never understood about the game was how TNT and minecarts are supposed to work, economically
They're not, really. Both function as a "fun" kind of item, TNT gets more useful in player-vs-player as an item to destroy other's bases, if you're into that sorta thing.
That's probably more for mathematicians, but nevertheless a fantastic movie with great black-and-white cinematography.
Halon is pretty much banned for years now, other agents have been introduced. Sadly, making an actual full test of a gaseous extinguishing system (such as FM200 or Novec 1230) can be prohibitively expensive (mainly costs of the "reloading" of the system with new gas). Those are just mostly tested for correct pressure in tanks and if the detection electronics are working fine, making an actual dump would be very impractical (evacuation of personnel, ventilating the room afterwards etc.)
There are non-Halon systems, using agents such as FM-200. Those are not as toxic and do not destroy the ozone layer.
