Pizza Effect 6 years ago

You misunderstood. It's not "Pizza" that was looked down upon in Italy, it was "toppings on pizza".

There are 3 official types of Neapolitan pizza, for example, and none of them have any of what Americans would traditionally consider "toppings".

Putting anything other than tomato sauce, mozzarella, and seasonings on a Neapolitan pie is, simply, "looked down upon".

Do you use Gitlab? Everybody on HN loves to love Gitlab because they're the underdog, and the product isn't bad, but it's not that great either.

Yes, you've described why large corporations are hated. It's quite obvious that a handful of numbers are incapable of measuring a person's true impact, yet by god, they insist on trying.

If it's operated by the state, it will probably be a disaster.

This is a common trope propagated by big-business interests, but it's not borne out by evidence. Giant corporations have proven remarkably apt at being hacked and leaking private data.

You can huff and puff about things you don't like being "American" but the rest of the world is following along about as fast as they can.

Any risk analyst could tell you all the factors you don't take into account when you do a simple comparison of renting a new, cared-for, insured vehicle for which someone else is responsible vs. the crapshoot of buying something second-hand, which you now have to take on, whatever goes wrong.

I also doubt you are taking fuel into account with this comparison, which was the primary source of savings mentioned when you own a small car and rent a truck as needed.

Come now. Most of the people who drive pickups rarely if ever use them to tow or haul things. They drive pickups because driving anything else means you're gay, or communist, or smoke marijuana.

Economics 101. Any producer would rather sell a tenth of the units at ten times the cost. This is one way to do that.
