GenAI is great at combining existing things in new ways (interpolation). It's terrible at creating new things from scratch (extrapolation).

I think you believe a fallacy about how human cognition works if you think we actually do something different than interpolation

Short answer yes.

Slightly longer answer for older text to image models you teach them how to encode images and text into the same latent space. Then you simply do a conversion, take a text input, put it into latent space and then extract the image that latent space represents.

If your entire competitive advantage is copying your rival's better product and not making any true innovation or improvement and only delivering a slightly worse product its little different than cheating, yes.

Distillation is not cheating

Blatantly against ToS of any of the major labs hence their efforts to prevent it.

Not saying you are actually a Chinese astroturfer but this is essentially exactly what I would expect one to be saying.

You can assume they're more or less co-opted by the CCCP so how much do you trust Xi? Mistral isn't even a real player.

Data Centers in Space are a practical engineering impossibility,

Not really, thermal radiators are well understood and the size needed aren't really that unreasonable. Radiation hardening the GPUs is probably the single hardest problem along with actual launch costs.

making no economic sense

Yes this is the real issue, Spacex would need to reduce the cost of launches by ~10x with Starship for it to ever be viable.

Its like saying Pinochet was one of the least murderous authoritarian dictators. The bar is low...

And the jets is a terrible example - you picked one of THE highest regulated industries where NOBODY has a problem with regulation

The potential risk from serious AI disasters far far outweighs anything the Airline industry has ever done. Like its a joke that I even have to invoke that in the first place.

You don't need to read this to know it's wrong. Ted Chiang hasn't solved the hard problem so he can't say that anything is conscious or not. I'm a big fan of his sci-fi but his bold pronouncements about AI are pretty flimsy and are a pretty bad look for him imo.

MCP is dead? 2 months ago

MCP will die for the same reason RAG died and why prompt engineering is dying. The models get better at understanding what you want and where to find the right tool or context to solve the problem on their own.

Ferrari Luce 2 months ago

Seems obvious that this was his failed Apple Car design. Completely out of touch for Ferrari. It's going to be a major flop...

Probably 80% of the recent PhD grads I know are looking to leave academia, despite the fact that they went into it to pursue a career in academia.

Sad if true, they should have known that was a long shot, it's extremely well known that the number of postdoc and tenure track openings in any given year is far exceeded by the number of PhD grads each year.
