the ironic thing with Teams is that the one thing on the label - managing teams- is AWFUL. I'm sure company culture comes into this, but for an app that sells itself on the idea that it makes little teams for people to join, it's awful at letting you manage the teams. i'm a member of like 80 some odd teams and maybe 3 of them give updates. All the rest are silent.

it's a disaster. it's fine for voice/video calls, but it's slow and not fun to use in the app on my dev machine (i7/32GB RAM)

If you have the iPod already, it's a great afternoon project and not too expensive to do.

This is entirely on the author. Sure these vendors make awful products and poorly maintain them - but nobody is forcing anyone to buy them or integrate them into their house. I have yet to hear, or especially see, these devices make anybody’s life easier than doing the task manually.

I think that’s my answer. I like good guys/bad guys. There’s enough grey areas and anti heroes in real life. I want simpler fiction

Are the Culture the good guys or the bad guys? I read Consider Phlebas first and felt such a whiplash moving into Player of Games or whatever the next one was. I want to like that series but I just can’t figure out if I’m rooting for bad guys or not.

I’m the outlier among my friends- I grew up in the suburbs and I absolutely love them and want to go back. Nobody else I know does.

This is overkill for your example 1, but the apple watch has an inactivity tracker. It reminds you to get up and stand for a minute every hour if it notices you aren't moving. I've found it useful when I'm sitting around or working at a computer for long stretches.

For your time to stop alert, the only thing I've found that helps is throwing everything on my outlook calendar - it gives alerts 15 minutes in advance of the appointment and that's enough to make me realize that some task is coming up and I need to prepare for it.

When I worked in the automotive industry, the Detroit Big 3 American auto makers had figured out their cost per minute of downtime. They would even charge that to their suppliers and anyone who shut down one of their plants.

It was something like $10,000 per minute since they’re able to roll a complete vehicle off the assembly line about every minute

Same thing. Went digging for the save icon - interesting that the continuous save feature drops the floppy icon. I think as we move to more cloud hosted documents and stuff we'll see floppy drop out for some looped paper kind of thing. I hope the visual language of a floppy sticks around forever
