Well, Jeff Bezos with Blue Origin is so far behind that they haven't launched anything to the Low Earth Orbit yet, and as far as I know they don't have plans to launch to LEO for the next few years. So wrg to reusable launch vehicles, so far SpaceX is the only game in town. OTOH, Jeff Bezos has more money and can speed things up if he wants.

Except for saving human lives in emergency situations. I doubt the self-flying plane would land in the Hudson river and saved all the passengers.

I had similar experience at salesforce.com. Now I call it "failure to on-board." Partially my fault, partially theirs.

Anyway, it looks like we are looking at few more years of decreasing consumption, to get to the year 2000 level of household debt. And even that level is probably too high. So, mostly troubles ahead for US economy, no matter who the next president is going to be.

Protagonist works for the huge gov bureaucracy in Soviet Union (Gosplan) and imagines that he is going through the levels to reach the Princess. He pretty much lives in the world of Prince of Persia. Hes colleagues, OTOH, live in the worlds of F19 or M1 Abrams, so when protagonist goes to speak to his boss, he has to go through the tank battlefield of M1 game.

Ok, so let's say SOPA is implemented and my Internet provider is blocking some sites through their DNS server. Who would stop me from using another DNS server (located perhaps in Russia or China) that is not blocking those websites? This is pretty much the same way that people in China use when they want to see blocked content. It works both ways, I suppose.

I've been a Netflix customer for over 5 years. To me, Netflix is a company that does DVDs-by-mail well, and also trying to grow online streaming.

Online streaming as it is right now is a baby. It grows fast as every healthy baby does, but it can't be an adult yet as DVD business is. May be it will grow enough in the next few years, may be. So when Netflix announced separate price for DVDs and streaming, i cancelled streaming immediately, because it is not ready for me yet as a separate product I'm willing to pay for. It was good enough to have it as an addition, as a nice extra feature, but not good enough to pay extra.

So, in my opinion, there is (was?) one thing that Netflix is(was?) doing well, and now, what is this company doing anyway? What are their business? Oh, it's a video streaming over the internet, just like Hulu or Youtube?

I think Netflix just shot itself in the head.

Social Security and Medicare are different from Medicaid and military budget, because they have different funding.

Social Security and Medicare are funded by payroll taxes. Medicaid and military budget funded from Federal income tax.

If you cut military budget 100%, you will save ~900 billions (or whatever the right number is) a year. If, on the other hand, you cut Social Security or Medicare, the savings are 0, because you will have to cut their funding as well. Surely, no one will pay Medicare taxes, if there is no Medicare exist, right?

I've been a Netflix customer since 2005. Last time I tried to use their "streaming service," it demanded that I use IE instead of Firefox to watch a movie. I never tried it ever since. Yet I'm still renting DVDs from them.
