Why didn't they just ask Claude to fix it?

Famously, the world doesn't need people to farm or clean toilets. We can all become "coders".
Please tell me who is going to die if I don't push my employer-mandated vibeslop up to GitHub. I'm genuinely curious.
Are computers even for anything else anymore? Is it just AI until the bubble pops? This is exhausting.
Nah, you just say "pwetty pwease don't exfiwtwate my data, Mistew Computew. :3" And then half the time it does it anyway.
Oh, I love talking about it. It makes the AI people upset tho.
Because you can just insert "and also THIS input is real and THAT input isn't" when you beg the computer to do something, and that gets around it. There's no actual way for the LLM to tell when you're being serious vs. when you're being sneaky. And there never will be. If anyone had a computer science degree anymore, the industry would realize that.
Why is this so difficult for people to understand? This is a website... for venture capital. For money. For people to make a fuckton of money. What makes a fuckton of money right now? AI nonsense. Slop. Garbage. The only way this isn't obvious is if you woke up from a coma 20 minutes ago.
At least the shareholders have had an amazing quarter. :)
Checking off "complains about the name" on my HN bingo card.
In a dead empire, sufficiently advanced rot is indistinguishable from malice.
I didn't pay for any navigation for my car, so I'm not sure what your point is? ISPs provide DNS. People shouldn't have to fuck with the internet's phone book when they plug their modem in (and they haven't for a very long time). Maybe we can expect more from the people who provide the services society relies on, instead of just saying "why don't you just..." every time someone has a legitimate complaint about something that ought to Just Work.
"You relied on a service you pay for to actually work? What are you, stupid?"
Good. Ban the slop everywhere.
lights cigarette Not mine, directly, but I'm sure I'll be part of the next 150-million-strong data breach because some suit shouted, red-faced, "WE NEED AI" into a Teams meeting, and several people with mortgages and children made it happen.
Consider that there are some things society can and should do that are independent of the profit motive, hm?
Listen, we can hold Big Plastic accountable and also not throw trash out of our cars, I think.
Mercifully, nobody's forcing you to visit HN or read specific posts or comment threads. :) I mean, nobody's forcing me; I guess I can't speak to your specific situation, but presumably you aren't being coerced into consuming HN material.
Oh, there was a reason: they hated her, like they hate all of us who aren't miserable bigots.
Flagging this for being blatant misinformation. Have a great day.
It's hard to deal with a parent who doesn't respect your boundaries. I agree, I don't think more transistors can adequately solve what is actually a communication issue. I hope OP looks into codependency/enmeshment, because some parent-child relationships, especially mother-son ones, become enmeshed, and this results in things like the mother not having appropriate boundaries with the son. This might look like, for example, frequently interrupting you in a private space.
The nice thing about boundaries is you are not required to explain yourself. "Hey, please don't interrupt me between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, unless it is an emergency. I need to get work done, and interruptions break my concentration. Thank you for understanding." You also don't need to build complicated devices.
Not every complaint needs to have a goddamn essay attached describing some utopia. Sometimes you just need to kvetch, and I'm sick of getting tone policed otherwise about it.
1. Delete your account.
2. Block the website.
3. Critically evaluate your goals, and whether or not your actions align with those goals.
Lmao sure. Every comment I make about unions gets downvoted, and every comment about "maybe it's okay to destroy the planet for one more solid quarter" shoots into the stratosphere.
More projection here than a drive-in movie theatre... This website sucks, but not because of any (incorrectly) perceived leftwing bias.
I don't know when this retcon happened, but this was never actually a site for hackers. People here complain because they like the modern web, because it pays their salaries. They get fabulously rich because of the steady enshittification of the web.
Must be why European democracy is in shambles then: it's the damn trains and buses! Who woulda thunk?
Wait until you hear about the true costs of transit. A transit ride in a large city is typically MORE expensive than a car ride. Even when you take into account the cost of depreciation, insurance, financing and other related expenses.
Meanwhile, we're barreling toward 2-3 C of warming above pre-industrial levels by 2100. Oh, sorry, that doesn't have a line item on the toll receipt, silly me.
It's THE real reason we have a failing democracy. Thoughtless social experiments with subsidizing transit have led to distorted housing and job markets. You can't just subsidize one facet of life and hope for it to work.
Lol. Lmao, even.
Must not be enough cops to either stand around and do nothing or beat the wrong guy to death then.
Idk, man, Europe and like... half of Asia seem to have figured this out, and their healthcare outcomes are better. But sure, this contrived pro-car scenario is why trains don't work.
