I have no idea what the GP thread wrote, but it seems it was probably off base. In general: Nowadays, I believe there is a subtle and misguided conflation between a rare few, loud, victim-hierarchy-obsessive crybullies trying to impose collective outcomes with selective, collective punishment of "perpetrator groups" (possibly referred to as SJWs) with greater numbers of people who have legitimate, historical persecutions and casual, recurring bias harm (those who needed and try to maintain actual social justice without bothering people beyond what's essential).

I wouldn't jump to blaming people of a particular political persuasion because complaining about kids, their loud music and them not walking 100 miles, barefoot and naked in the snow is as old as time itself. Right/left is divide-and-conquer nonsense; solidarity amongst regular people is far more important.

The Fry’s Era 7 years ago

I've built clone PCs since the early 80's, and worked at Egghead Software in San Jose as an assistant manager in high school. I remember the Fry's grocery store and the original Sunnyvale Fry's way back and the multitude of independent shops, WeirdStuff Warehouse, MicroCenter, Central Computer, JDR Microdevices, Pixel USA (did a lot of business with Tony). There were a zillion independent shops' ads listed in Computer Shopper (it was a good 1.5" / 4 cm thick).

CompUSA (a big, hypermart-style tech and electronics retailer) came in and killed Egghead (the shops were just too small to compete) and most other mom & pop's; I was there at the closing firesale. And later Comp USA also succumbed. Fry's was more of a pseudo-flea-market with cheezy looking price signs, and full-page ads in the San Jose Mercury News... their big draw was the Black Friday deals where people line up like people line up at Walmart.

Nowadays: NewEgg, PriceWatch.com, FindChips, OctoPart, Halted (HSC), AliExpress, eBay, Amazon

If you want to save some money, bargains can also be had traveling to a certain building or two in Shenzhen / Huaqiangbei; and it helps to have a friend who speaks fluent Mandarin. See also:

PS: The Fry's pictured in the story is the Campbell location where it was fun to run up/down the flat "escalator" as it was like an airport's people-mover, but much bouncier.

I don't understand what public "good" this is trying to accomplish (who's the victim?); it seems like the victim was victimized twice: once by revenge porn and then again with an unjust, unconcerned, over-prosecuting legal system that incarcerates more people per capita than all other countries except Seychelles.

A tangential irony is adults engaging sex for money is illegal in most of America, while if it involves a camera, then it's porn and legal.

Upton Sinclair effect - It is difficult to get someone to come to terms with necessary lifestyle changes when their wasteful, resource-intensive lifestyle depends on them not understanding it.

You're wrong because you're not applying nuance and you're trying to prognosticate. It depends on which part of Ukraine. All of Ukraine is extremely unlikely to be annexed because Putin is fairly contained by a multiplicity of international pressures. More likely, if at all, a portion of one of the Baltic states or a region around the Crimea would get take, but that's unlikely.

I recall the pleasure of riding a slow, long school bus meandering around the city for 3 hours a day for 4 school years because there were "too many whites/Asians" at a school on the same block where I lived. Gotta love bureaucratically-proscribed "equality of outcome" policies foisting inequity of treatment externalities onto individuals based on their race. Definitely not racism, because racism can't happen to white males due to the celebration of the hierarchy of victimhood, right?
