the data that google shows from websites is provided by websites as structured markup, websites started providing this with the expectation that it would provide better ranking. Nowadays, however, google could probably just render the same thing thorugh nlp without any additional hints from the sourced pages

From a CSS perspective, shadows, opacity, round borders, and other transformations are very expensive, so flat design is also a matter of resources constraint, they might look fluid, because with time the rendering backend got GPU speed ups, but they would still consume more power/ run a device hotter; this is probably less relevant on native guis..

it would be more like different courses are best at teaching the same thing in a particular way that works best with a subset of people, so the top would be made of the set of courses that works with the majority of the population. The problem is that the way humans learn is not exactly understood, is it even a finite set? And what is its diatribution? Can it change through time/culture? Can it be identified in genetic traits? So if the learning methodology changes through time the best courses would also follow with it

indeed thats probably also one of the most important reasons why they went on funding their own shows, and I don't think that there is another company that tries to bootstrap regional quality shows like netflix. As setting up your own streaming platform becomes easier most of the advantage netflix would provide is maybe just easier service offering outside of the main region of the network and less legal burden

My experience with russian or swedish is that the comments give a lot more insight on many excercises and what it is they are trying to teach and the grammar part of things. If you just chug along without taking the time to browse around then very little remains with you. I am not sure this is a compliment to Duolingo though as I am mostly praising the usefulness if their users...

there is a minimum basket of SEO optimizations that are worth keeping track of and are 'natural', like proper site hierarchy, meta tagging, linking out to connected social accounts, the rest of the time is better spent on what the site is actually about.

bitcoin electricity cost is the equivalent of a couple of small nations, or the full power of a nuclear power plant, its hashpower is equivalent to the top 500 supercomputers. (this info might be outdated by now). what secures it though is not the giant mountain of resources by itself but MAD (mutually assured destruction) which is hardly game theoretic. Its basically a way for people to park their money akin to real estate, so they wont ever attack the network as long as it keeps their money warm and fuzzy. Its not really decentralized (more like denationalized) and strongly vulnerable to regulations. However just like safe havens if a nation bans it others will welcome it, thats why it is unkillable. China despite having all the resources to crack down on bitcoin mining they wont do it because for the better or worse its like controlling a global currency, which they have been trying to turn the yuan into for a while

the main need for threads is a non blocking ui...another example of a very extensible software with a ui that locks at any step because of how extensible it is, is kodi :p

when I think about smartphone innovation I generally think about all the level of automation that could be done with for example tasker for android, if only smartphones could pull sensors data and substantially eliminate overheating, we could have a seamless experience with very little interaction needed, probably not even touch inputs. Smartphones today are sleeping most of the time, they are not dumb, but very much lazy. The benchmarks war has done a ton of harm...look! this device hits 200k on this benchmark, too bad battery dies after 3hours if you keep that up, btw you might also feel an uncomfortable heat in your hands...

there are smartphones with 10kmha, not sure what you mean for awkward file transfer, changing tracks depend on your pair of earphones and the app you use, a lot of apps allow controls through eg bluetooth earphones or simply the mic button on wired ones.
