Very true. As I grow older I realize that one should take the authors age in consideration when reading articles like this should be read.

Yea spreadsheets were useful before and even more useful now. Agreed, they could be misused but what can't be misused ?

One of the many things that surprised me in the US was seemingly complicated means of transferring cash between bank accounts. This process has been trivial in Nigeria (and some other countries) for a long time now with the NIBSS settlement system. I look forward to hearing about the progress of this project and the possible impact to existing payment services such as Venmo, Cashapp, Paypal...

He oversimplified the issue. Phone companies don't make money through ads. FB/Twitter/Google make money by "getting into the weeds". They chose a business model with much more reward (hence much more risk). They're basically running ads businesses. You post about shoes, they sell you shoes. You talk about unemployment, they sell you a candidate ? Gitlab/Microsoft et al have slightly less dependent business models that aren't dependent on ads (for the most part).

This is something I can relate to as well. Something that helps me is by creating small wins. Don't just have the overall completion of your project - Define some milestones to your MVP. This helped me go farther after I lost momentum. It gives you sense of achievement that you can use to move forward gradually. Another point made in the comments below has to do with partnership. This is great but it can be quite tough to get partners on board without having an MVP or something (except you're already influential) - chicken and egg situation. But when you have an MVP, you stand better chance of getting people interested and that could serve as further motivation to move forward...

Well this isn't totally outside programming but you can tutor programming on wyzant.com for some good hourly rates. Even cool if you like teaching what you do, plus you'll probably not be teaching stuff as complex as your daily hustle :)
