Annoying like the decision to use "rape" for your issue.

Also tjweir and tylerweir, lost the passwords. :(

Same, missed basic, cobol, scheme and JS. :(
I don't think he was suggesting that it's not newsworthy, just that he had an expectation, as did I, to get an insight into the apps used during production.
I was going to ask the same question. Not once have a thought "my daughter is eating too much."
Politics, nutrition and parenting are all conversations I attempt to avoid, and this combines 2 of 3 topics. :/
If you're an Emacs user, look into Ensime, it's fantastic. http://github.com/aemoncannon/ensime
Please let HN know if you do in fact do this, as it would no doubt be beneficial to a good percentage.
mrtron, start-up you say? Toronto you say? Do you ever hit StartupDrinks?
The shoe scam quip references the resurgence of barefoot/forefoot running, which eliminates the need for heel shock absorption or "motion control" shoes (aka, the costly ones).
It's referred to ask a scam because running shoe retailers typically teach heel strike running and then offer costly shoes to mitigate injury.
If you're interested check out the book "Born To Run," google POSE running or check out crossfitendurance.com
I'd simply add "buy the best bed _for you_." In your case, you lucked out, others may find only fancy mattresses are restful.
Maybe you expect payment in IP addresses.
Further, 21 items that cost $55.1 total $1157.1000000000001
I'm not sure if you're attempting to imply that I'm an uninvolved father, but I do appreciate you snipping the context for the quote you chose.
As the father of a 1 year old girl who owns a gym and has a start-up, I agree with everything in this post.
ezmobius, I wish I had more votes to give you, as this is one of the best comments I've read on HN.
And an emphasis on sleeping when your baby sleeps, you may need to encourage your wife to sleep, as she'll probably want to do other things.
A friend of mine with 3 kids often says, "Mom takes care of the baby, Dad takes care of Mom." I think that's apt in the first 4 months, just do whatever you can to allow your wife to be the best mother she can be.
I use my iPad every day for email and browsing. My wife and I pass it back and forth to play Small World and "still-iphone-only" Carcassone. My daughter swipes through photos and mashes on the piano app Virtuoso.
It's a purchase that I feel no regrets for making, even though it's a first version and the next iteration will be better.
I'm puzzled why you would question the motivation of porting erlang to run atop the JVM.
Just because you don't like erlang syntax and would prefer to have ruby on top of BEAM, doesn't mean that others should not undertake this port.
Rather than question erjang, why not start your ruby/BEAM port?
Edit: better grammar.

That hopefully helps.

"According to Carlson [Head of Clay], the money will be sent to a charity foundation if Perelman does not claim it within one year."
I run a CrossFit gym in Toronto. I get no money/compensation for anything regarding nutrition. We get people to try paleo for a month, book-ended by body composition tests and benchmark workouts. If life gets better and they stick with it, great, if they want to quit, they quit.
"Y'see now you're sounding like a salesman."
You didn't answer the question, you just accused me of something that's not true.
I think the best thing to do is end this conversation. We disagree on all the points up for discussion, and I'm guessing that nothing I type will convince you, and I'm certain that nothing you type will convince me.
I understand your viewpoint and opinion, as I've run into it before.
I'm going to disagree that gluten has had "no obvious ill effects" because I've seen the changes in my clients lives, experienced it my self (gluten-intolerant) and my mother (Celiac). And your argument that eating grains is not bad because they taste good is preposterous.
As for LSD, can you tell what appeals to you about the physique of a marathoner?
Changing peoples eating and exercise habits is like getting people to quit smoking, they need to have the impetus to start, outside advice/encouragement only goes so far.
"eat less junk, do more exercise." I guess we differ on what "junk" is.
Looks pretty good.
Two points that I'd not follow.
Diet: Eating grains. Gluten is pretty much evil for everyone, including non-Celiacs. Google for "paleo diet" or "gluten autoimmune" to get a sense of gluten's impact. Also check out the "Save my Life" HN thread for more info about gluten-free/paleo. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1399450
Exercise: Cardio, long slow distance is pretty much useless. High intensity intervals, 200m, 400m repeats will have a much bigger impact. If you really love endurance, check out http://crossfitendurance.com/ and google for "tabata intervals"
> Thinness is not an issue, since sugar is not off limits.
Paleo eating excludes refined sugars completely, and asks you to reduce fruit. Meat and veg, nuts and seeds, some fruit, no grains, no dairy.
> A week won't do it on the diet change,
Totally agree here. And switching from a traditional high-carb, low-fat diet to paleo leads to 2 or 3 weeks of feeling like crap. We're 5 weeks into our Paleo Challenge at the gym I own, and most people are feeling like a million bucks. We do our best to impress upon them that the first 2-3 weeks will be difficult.
I'm going to add another vote for Celiac/Gluten sensitivity.
Useful people are Loren Cordain[1] and Robb Wolf[2].

I'm in the same boat, $40/year as a Canuck.
I'd like both, and would pay $60/year for that.
I'm expecting Wired will do something that motivates current print subscribers to keep the magazine and also grab the iPad version.
That said, the iPad experience is really nice. It's a hefty download as all the media is included (like the Toy Story 3 clip on the front page), but it's so well done.
You basically want a shoe that offers rock and debris protection and not much more. We have a number of clients using Nike Frees and good old Converse Chuck Taylors (low-cut). Personally, I like my Converse more than my FiveFingers.
(I'm co-owner of CrossFit Quantum and we teach forefoot/POSE running as part of our movements.)
They showed controlling the TV with Android phones, in fact with multiple phones.
No more fights for the controller. :)
Hi, I'm the co-owner of CrossFit Quantum in Toronto, and co-author of As Rx'd, which is still under going development, just really slowly. Combine that with the iPad and there are so many tempting avenues to follow.
There are certainly a number of interesting services to talk to nowadays, location-based ones would have been a no-brainer if they were around when we were writing As Rx'd.
