Sure valid point, either way the founders should not complain too much as a FB stock option and job will work our just perfect, if FB ever goes public.

You hit the nail on the head here, this is the new "Space" and massively valuable - very much an un-touch niche market. To be able to silently accumulate 10m happy users is hugely impressive. The analytical info on 10m active users (file types sizes etc) is why they shut it down, to absorb that info and change FB for the long term. Maybe a more private FB in future for users that don't want News Feeds etc.
ahhrr it's contagious!
Maybe image uploads are killing FB bandwidth per user quota? So excessive users could be offered a premium service for a vault like back-up of high res images. As most original images are uploaded only to be optimised, yet those images might last much longer on FB than with the user.
So how did it go go for you post YC? Did you progress? Or did you apply again?
Good man! Good to hear from people this side of the "fibre link". We could do shifts you know!
That's more like it!J Good Luck anyways!
Hey for those of you in the US no problem, it's 10pm here in London and pg said we might be notified before 10pm pt. Nails I can bite, but sleep now...you joking right!
Positive thinking dude!
Good point ilamont, I wonder if they have a'users vs risk' load balancer built into the search for the rate. For instance if 100k people tried for the same rate at the same time, would it randomly change the rate to balance the risk?
I would expect this has something to do with the browser and where it indexes the results (pull this rate from) from to start with. As Firefox can deliver results from many search engines, I would love to know if Devin knew what Firefox was searching with at the time, Yahoo/ Bing or Google. If set to Google this could be a fantastic bench test to see what results are actually delivered from both browsers connected to Google.
I have to disagree with your points above, Apple create stylish / iconic user friendly products, built to last, which will reflect in the price from a consumer point of view. Where the likes of Dell, Sony, LG, Samsung and the rest build Laptops and PC's to compete in a very competitive & affordable price range set by millions of retailers world wide, whom created a price war amongst themselves. A company does not need to own or create all of their IP in order to be successful or ask a higher MSRP, they just need to distance themselves from their competition and create a buzz, which Apple have done remarkably well.
I see Apple as a type of Fashion brand or a designer - look at the handbag market for instance, why do they range from $10 -$10,000 if they do the exact same thing and majority of the time they're made from near enough from the same materials and on average cost the same to make.
Regarding your last point "And it is simply perverse seeing people actually bragging on behalf of Apple about the fact that they are rolling in cash." I find it quite amusing to see how many people are so unhappy about the success Apple have made, when they really should be pointing their anger to laptop manufactures that are responsible for consumers spending huge sums of money constantly replacing or updating poorly built products that only last 12 months before they start cooking themselves!
I think airlines could pre-wire all seats to be able to provide 110v supply if purchased with your ticket or on-board as an add-on. Then have an intelligent switcher, which only energizes the socket if they have been pre-purchased, reducing the need to distribute live power around the plane.
Most people would really only want a few hours of charging. Then you could have a capped number of active sockets per flight of say 50-100 seats.
I would think the gates are not airline specific due to flexibility for when things go wrong such as aircraft docking requirements not working. Currently they simply change the gate. Therefore this "Comfortability" issue would need to be a Airport expenditure and would have to be rolled out across the entire airport. Not sure all airports will want their landing rates increased for this reason as not all are on the same rates or sizes / no gates etc. The other problem is the more comfortable the waiting area chairs are the more uncomfortable the aircraft will feel when they eventually board.
You all have read this wrong! It says a survey of 5k consumers of multiple devices, which 32% of the questioned people who owned an iPad have never downloaded an app. That's 32% of the iPad owners questioned, not Apple's total units sold. Firstly we don't know what % of the 5k were iPad owners. It could have been 3 then only 1 out of 3 have never downloaded an app. Does not sound so bad now then? ;-)
The problem is space, reclining chairs will probably take up more space and need maintenance, not to mention the cost per chair and how to justify it. Airports and Airlines want to make the process of boarding more streamlined...investing in chairs that comfort the wait due to delays are a waste to them and a problem that needs fixing prior to the delay. Sure you have the elements to deal with, bad weather etc. which we all accept. The funny side of this post is that we all forget about when we eventually board the plane and it takes 1 hour to get to the runway to take off. Then 8 hours stuck in a chair that is less friendly than the one this post is complaining about. ;-)
Hi, just recently applied for the next winter round and thought I would get involved and get a few words in! ;-) So the chances of getting accepted as a single founder (which I am) is harder, but surely having a flexible single founder willing to adapt, either by changing his idea or even to team up with other applicants to form a better foundation to move forward, is equally as good (or as risky) as Friends being co-founders. My point is, founders (friends, coders, family etc) could prove to consume more valuable time managing their personalities rather than getting the job done in the first 3 months to get VC's interested or even be accepted by Y-C as pointed out by "pg" in a previous post. There is clearly huge talent being pitched here and I was just keen to hear if Y-C ever formed new partnerships by connecting people?
Not sure they would do that, I think this Mac App store is purely a tool to create a vertical revenue stream to sell to the vast existing iMac user base. I also think this will increase the amount of business applications 20 fold and possibly propel the MacBook into many businesses as IT dept's could use the App Store to add software to these Mac's and restrict any other content from workers. Far Less IT support required plus Apps would cost less than Microsoft software etc.
