I often find myself searching on HN, then Reddit (via google) and then good old sad google, in that order.

When Google arrived, it had the solution people were desperately waiting for. It was pretty much everything we wanted. And it even "wasn't evil!"

Now it feels like people at Google are just making sure they'll qualify for their annual bonus with total disregard to what happens to the company.

I forecast that in the next 1-3 years, we'll see another company steal the search market, just like Google it back in the day. But Google, don't worry, they'll "just be a search company".

I'd never buy anything from Pakt without seeing it endorsed by someone I trust.

It's a shame because there is good stuff in their catalogue, but it's littered with trash.

Just because something can be counted in a fixed timeframe doesn't mean it makes sense to slap a Hz unit on it.

What's your frequency (in Hz) of sexual intimacy?

Ah good old planned obsolescence.

Some people argue it's just incompetence, not PO. But if you've been in the business of making the same type of hardware/appliances for more than a few years then it's definitely planned obsolescence.

because I didn't want to produce anything before I analyze enough music

Just wanted to say be careful with self limiting thoughts. I never saw myself even as a musician because I am largely self taught.

It wasn't really until I was having a chat with a great musician/composer that I have tremendous respect for. He made a comment that I was a great musician when we were talking about the topic of "being a musician". Those few words from him made a huge impact on my life.

I think what I'm trying to say is: write stuff, produce stuff. You don't have to publish it or you could publish under pseudonym if you like. The fear of failure has held me back an awful lot and it's still crippling sometimes.

if you write the cards yourself

I'd go so far to say it's almost an requirement. Unless you have a high quality deck made specifically for the book/course/material you have.

Sadly most of the publicly available Anki are IMHO not of that quality.

I did the same. I had some weird path issues with Duplicity.

Borg is now my holy backup grail. Wish I could backup incrementally to AWS glacier storage but that just me sounding like an ungrateful begger. I'm incredibly grateful and happy with Borg!
