I'm looking for an OS, Linux is not just a kernel anymore it seems, for this and other reasons, hint, Linux Foundation and their cooperate lords.

We can't hold back the world because of some lazy UI Devs, I can't believe we still facing scaling issues in 2024!

My solution, under Linux, I get laptop screens with 2X scaling, i.e. 2.8K and 3.2K for larger laptops.

Pros:

- Fingerprint reader is not supported

- Screen is reflective and 60Hz only, I'm spoilt by high refresh screens now, buy one and you'll understand why.

Looking forward to ThinkPad T14 AMD Gen 5, last year's was close to perfect, but no way I'll be investing in a 60Hz LoDPI screen device.

I used to use Lineage OS with microG, but now I use iode, very similar.

Note, I never patched or installed something besides microG ever, so my experience is as close to pure microG experience as possible.

Here in UK, using microG, banking apps for Nationwide, Starling, Revolut, HSBC all work with no issues.

Generally, I face no issue using any app.

I bought a Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5, 7840HS.

First order, it had coil whine, rattling touchpad and a corrupted edid.

If you're referring to Vivid Resourcing, they're truly horrible, I got interrogated by them for 30+ mins and they disappear, happened twice so it can't be a one off!

My Android does have that option, under: Hotspot and tethering > Allow clients to use VPNs.

Note however, my ROM is based on LineageOS, probably the reason why not everyone got it?

How about isolation, how do you manage that? Are services ran under different containers, VMs or namespaces?

I use luks with btrfs, setup using archinstall, works as expected, I hope this helps.

My advice, get a job around (but not in) London area, if not, get a remote role with a company in south, that gave me a bump from 35k to 71k.

This is it, I'm not in the US, many aren't either, so why shall I suffer the consequence of such decisions.

Note sure if it's feasible to have a none-US build whilst based in the US.

But for the time being it's over for me, I've been using Fedora for years and recommending it to friends and family, despite the RPM fusion required after initial setup, but not anymore.

The reason I'm asking, according to a Lenovo talk from DebConf22 [0], the guy said it takes some time for patches to reach upstream, but with Fedora and Ubuntu they have some connections to shortcut some patches before they reach upstream.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14 AMD Gen 1 here. My experience is totally different, using Fedora 36, everything works! Battery life I have no exact numbers, but definitely way more than 3 hours.

I won't bore you with the details, but things are locked down and a dev folder structure is assumed and baked into the build system, both for sources and dependencies.
