All you need to convince American politicians of anything is jingling keys and cash. Plus MTG opposed the original TikTok bill, they only voted in favor when it was packed together with sending money for Israel.

A spin to a US company is not enough. It needs to cease operating in the US because there’s no surety that even with a spin data and sharing won’t get back to ByteDance China.

At this level of paranoia you may as well ban Facebook and other social media as there is no guarantee their data is not getting intercepted by China.

My suspicion is that a certain amount of work from the former owner, or from someone who is very knowledgeable about that type of object, is required to explain the value of the item to a potential buyer. Somehow the objects themselves are not the limiting factor (trash is full of good stuff that mostly stay there, because there is no one to do this work).

He did not write it down on his notebooks (and before going to England he mostly lacked the language of formal proofs to do it), but for the most part the equations are arranged in a logical order, and when meeting with Hardy he had no trouble explaining where each equation came from (though a lot of his reasoning was too unrigorous for Hardy's liking).

He did not use formal proofs but he was very organized and most of his equations had quite a logical buildup from equations that he wrote before. And even the ones that came out of nowhere are obviously worthy discoveries.

It is a pretty random example, but it is meant to say that the math is rarely the limiting factor for security. People spend time thinking about this type of stuff because they like it, not because it is actually important for security.

In my mind RSA is the last instance of a mathematical development changing the game of security. After that it is twists of the same idea on more obscure mathematical objects, and pyrotechnic protocols that only the truly unhinged (ethereum people) are willing to try out in practice.
