Meet people that have have done a lot of drugs? Some can still function. Others, just can’t. Had an owner of a successful tech company see it fall apart because he couldn’t make decisions anymore.

Was a really nice guy, but by the end I might hire him to sweep the floors, but only with supervision. Not sure how he’s doing now, but I imagine he’ll be homeless by some point.

He enjoyed going to burning man a lot.

Might be more fun to only check so often ir somewhat random ally. Human nature often it takes a moment to realize something is off.

Bear walks into tavern. Some panic, others are slower to react / notice. A very drunk dwarf might never notice, or offer a beer to the bear.

“I’m not addicted, it doesn’t affect me.” Every addict I know. Seen a number of people slowly change from it until they are no longer who they are. Never in a good way. Seen some who got off it.

One because her husband has such a bad reaction (after several years of use) that he can’t ever touch it again. She became her old self again. Not quite as bright as she once was, but personality improved to the loving person I once knew.

Got injured (brain). Airbnb and Uber eats is how I kept my family from being homeless until I recovered enough to program again.

Huge advantage being able to go at my own pace when I didn’t know how functional I would be on any given day

Not saying it’s a good company, but saved my family.

Owner hired an extremely “senior” developer. Was told to let him do his thing.

After he spent 3 months building a web app, I asked him how he wanted to deploy it.

Perfectly straight face he said we would take his developer machine to a local data center and plug it in. We could then buy him a new developer machine. It went downhill from there.

I ended up writing the application from scratch and deploying it that same evening.

Owner hired a lot Of strange people.

Get some audiobooks. Epic fantasy / sci-fi or whatever. See how you are doing tasks when a good portion of your mind is preoccupied.

I’m probably 20x faster since it stops the day dreaming.

Government / regulatory capture is a really bad thing. Businesses that can use the government to shut down competitors is bad. None of that is free market. Companies that are indistinguishable from government are bad. Tax payer Subsidies to pick winners and losers are bad.

None of those are free market.

People often argue against free market by pointing at things that are the opposite of free market.

Hint. Free Markets is why we have a thriving middle class. All counties that attempt to eliminate and replace it end up collapsing.

Venezuela is the latest example of a socialist paradise where the children now eat out of garbage cans.

This is what crash of 2000 was like for me. Multiple calls a day from recruiters. Sometime around June or so, the calls Stopped. Just stopped. Six months later I was working at RadioShack.

Along with a number of engineers with 10-20 years experience.

Took me 3 years to get back into a tech job.

This is starting to feel the same.

Got exposed to lot of natural gas over a 3 month period. (Long story) Eventually figured out that my blood begin clotting like crazy. I have factor 5, so I was predisposed to it, but I was having 2-3 TIAs a week for a couple of years. Huge cognitive decline.

Only when a large clot showed up in lungs did they figure out what was going on.

Week after being on blood thinners and simple programming problems that were taking me weeks to solve were back down to minutes.

If possible channel her into something. We had ours in a few sports. Currently in All Star Cheer. (Not what you see at football games) One even got a late start at 13.

They absolutely love it, and it’s been a big positive in many ways for them. Our lazy unmotivated child works hard now and talks constantly about college, getting good grades etc. basically, she’s doesn’t want to disappoint the team or her friends, so she’s learned to push herself hard. Plus they are so busy they don’t have time to get into trouble.

We had them in horses at one point. Person selling us on it had a good point that keeping them busy and active was cheaper than teen pregnancy or years of therapy.

My youngest is like that. Severe ADHD. Opposition defiance disorder. She is amazing and exhausting.

We do a mix of give where we can. Foods that she can tolerate, clothing that doesn’t bother her. But also strict on expectations. She follows directions or gets a time out.

We had many horrible times trying to give her a 3 minute timeout. 90 minutes, 3 adults drenched in sweat. She would run out of timeout, we would bring her back.

However the better we did about staying on top it, the better she learned self control. She’s older now, still a pistol, but is generally very well behaved.

We watch her closely for migraines, as that runs in the family and is a cause of sensory issues for a lot of us.

We only use dye and fragrance free laundry soap which helps a lot. No scented anything in the house.

Was suffering a large number of TIAs, and some clots in lungs.

When I stopped drinking a sugar free energy drink that had Erythritol my episodes drastically reduced. From weekly to every few months.

I have Factor 5 Leiden. So I predisposed to clots, but certain chemicals seem make it a lot works.
