Not liking the design. The flat design mocks that were made by random people on Dribbble are better. The gradient in the mail icon is too much. It's like someone's first design in Photoshop back in 2000.

SASS can also take a bunch of PNGs and auto generate a sprite map and it's CSS.

Already bought Little Inferno based on the rave reviews. It's so much fun playing with fire.

I think the animations (bounce effects) on this page are a little too much and it actually hurts the UX. It needs to be more subtle.

Agreed. It's like designers found out they can move things and are animating the crap out of everything.

They're forgetting what's important. The call to action button is the main focus and animating some random pictures get's the user distracted.

A lot of UI designers are doing this actually. They got the idea from using Facebook, Twitter logos with no labels. It doesn't work for icons that aren't commonly used.

agreed. I don't know why so many UI Designers do this. It's terrible UX to require a hover over to read a label.

It's best to do both, an Icon and a label. Street signs got it right 30+ years ago.

Screw that. There's a thing called balance. I would never trade my time going out/video gaming for more hours of programming. I balanced fun and work and I would consider my career successful. Youth is something you only have for so long. You still have 30+ years to program hardcore after your 30s.

As a designer, I can't really use this. It misses some of the minor design details that I can see in a real IE8 browser. It's like looking at your jpegs at 40% compression in Photoshop.

agreed. I like the Metro design the for the OS but for Office it's terrible. I think Metro is only good for designs that have a lot of white space. For something like Excel you need a little bit more detail to show what's clickable, ect...It's the same problem for Rdio's app.

What I love about Macklemore is that he puts a lot of heart and soul into his lyrics. It's something you see with Peyton Manning in football, Kobe Bryant in BBall. You can just tell he loves what he does.

For example, in Make the Money is about following your passion, not for the money but because you love what you do. With this mindset, the money will come.

Yuck. It's like designers are going crazy with animations just like when they learned about drop shadows, it's too much. Keep it simple and minimal. I checked their homepage and the animation of the silver box brings too much attention to it as well. You want the user to click on the green join now button but instead you bring attention to a graphic? The UX doesn't make any sense.

Animate what's important....not things just because you can.

There are a lot of things you learn on the job that you'll never learn from a university.

Retina Design is brand spanking new. You're not going to find it being taught in a university anytime soon.

Glad they are finally using icon fonts instead of PNG. Now we can make icons any color and add drop shadows if needed.

A lot of new people might be wondering, "What's difference between SoundCloud and Pandora/Spotify?". SoundCloud focuses only on indie music. Tracks that get more comments, listens, get on the Hottest Track List. There are a ton of gems that aren't played on the radio that can be found on Sound Cloud. Now you can be a hipster too.

EDIT: I guess it's now Explore > "Your genre". Not liking this UX. Before you could usually measure the quality of a track by the number of visible comments. With the new UI you can't do that.

It's very hard with a full-time job, family and 3 kids. I treat it like how busy parents treat going to the gym. You have 2 options really.

1 - Wait until they go to sleep. Usually 10pm. Con: Most of the time you are really tired by then. Most likely won't happen.

2 - Wake up really early. 5am.

Doing either of these means you need to sacrifice entertainment. I rarely have time for TV or video games anymore. Be warned single devs!

Terrible strategy by Microsoft. Don't they realize they are behind in the race? MS Phone still has no devs...The iPad is viewed as "cooler". Average users won't see the tech differences between the iPad and Surface. At the same price they'll pick the iPad because it's "cooler" and the Joneses have it too.

My willpower skill was built with NES games like Megaman 2 and Battletoads. The first 2 stages in Battletoads was so fun...I tried so many times to beat the bike stage so I could see the rest of the game. I was wrong, Battletoads gets even harder after that. lol
