Palm Treo/Pre and BlackBerry users! And probably Clicks users too. It's not a matter of "Does Russian language use the Latin script?" (it doesn't), but rather "What is the least annoying method to input Cyrillic on a BB-style keyboard, which doesn't have enough buttons for the йцукен layout?". Phonetic layouts such as яверты or яшерты were very popular for such devices back in the day.

Pebble 2 Duo were reusing the existing stock of Pebble 2 housings and displays. This model was intended as a limited run from the beginning.

Pebble Time 2 are designed from scratch and expected to be still available after the pre-order batches have been shipped out.

Pebble watches can use Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth Classic connection profiles simultaneously. It's possible to pair two phones this way, but that's considered an undocumented hack. Also there's no ready-made desktop OS support, I'd look into forwarding your laptop notifications to a phone via KDE Connect or something like that instead.

Nikolai Durov lives in Saint Petersburg and works for the Russian Academy of Sciences. Pavel Durov had visited Russia multiple time since his "exile".

The public-facing story around Telegram is performative PR, which could be explained by the exact reasons listed in the parent comments: association with the Russian state had hindered VK growth besides the CIS region.

X1 Carbon is part of the Intel Evo Platform. These are co-developed with Intel and therefore this line is exclusive to them.

X13s was confirmed to be sunset, another T14s is the most likely candidate among the ThinkPads.

Phone UI paradigm isn't as easy as "Let's just scale down the Desktop/Tablet applications". In case of Sailfish OS development history, migration from clunky, but closer to Desktop, Hildon framework of Maemo 5 to purpose-built Qt applications of Maemo/MeeGo Harmattan was obvious quality boost. Same with webOS and UBports: app ecosystem starting from scratch within their corresponding "DE"s. If convergence-style cross-device applications were somewhat easily achievable, that would've happened in the early 2010s (Windows Phone / Windows RT? Ubuntu Touch getting more attention from investors?). It's the same story why Android Tablets suck and iPadOS doesn't, but in other direction.

And/or, it's a simple matter of time/money being spent on streamlining the experience. It's not like Sailfish OS is perfect (Qt6 migration is way overdue), but Jolla has already figured out lots of integration details which will become teething problems for Droidian and such. Including, but not limited to VoLTE support.

I want a Linux phone that works

That's Jolla C2 or some Sailfish-compatible Xperia 10.

Both GNOME Shell in the phone context and Plasma Mobile are evolutionary dead ends.

Chromium choice is easy to explain due to PWA-shortcuts integration. That's less clunky than shipping Firefox with an extension or adding an external GUI PWA-manager.

Security is a policy-driven spectrum of considerations and solutions. GrapheneOS targets very specific threat models, which is not possible with Fairphone hardware/BSP. Whether it makes it not secure for your own use cases, it's up to you to decide.

Case in point: re-lockable bootloader requirement. Not everyone is a target for an evil maid types of physical attacks or possible state actor pressure. But when you actually need it, it's not negotiable.

Em dash as an AI detection trick doesn't work for text in Russian. The author just seems to like that way of composing sentences.

If we can extrapolate the PhotoSir/himirage[1] example to the whole slice of creative industry software, there's no such top-down plan currently. OTOH, CapCut is fairly popular, while not being overly serious kind of "professional", but a TikTok influencer kind.

[1] YeeHeart Inc sells the Windows and macOS builds, but Linux versions are only available on the Chinese version of their site. Kylin package can be installed on Wayland-enabled Ubuntu. The UI seems to be Chinese-only. On-topic: they have a HarmonyOS Next port as well.

There were no oligarchs in St. Petersburg when Putin got into politics

How do you call people like Gennady Timchenko? There's a nuanced difference between "Successful fossil fuel mogul" and "Member of a crime syndicate".

Pinning this on Americans is a huge stretch

I didn't. It was a minor detail explaining that these were the second president elections ever happened in modern Russia and there was no local expertise in manipulating public opinion yet. And there was no legal checks and balances preventing abuse of power of the current president. "Administrative resource" had become a common noun after 1996.
